Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A contact-activated switch is incorporated in an RFID tag that can be mounted on a wearable textile article. The contact-activated switch has a first mode and a second mode. The first mode is associated with a first RFID tag state in which a first set of data is transmitted by the RFID tag. The second mode is associated with a second RFID tag state in which a second different set of data is transmitted by the RFID tag.

First claim

1 . A system, comprising: a wearable textile article; at least one Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag mounted on the wearable textile article; a contact-activated switch on the at least one RFID tag, the contact-activated switch having a first mode and a second mode, the first mode being associated with a first RFID tag state in which a first set of data is transmitted by the RFID tag and the second mode being associated with a second RFID tag state in which a second different set of data is transmitted by the RFID tag, wherein the contact-activated switch is configured to enable automatic selection of at least one of the first or second modes. 2 . The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first mode corresponds to one of a contact mode or a non-contact mode, and the second mode corresponds to the other of the contact mode or non-contact mode; wherein the contact mode corresponds to when the contact-activated switch is in contact a user, and the non-contact mode corresponds to when the contact-activated switch is not in contact with the user. 3 . The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first set of data comprises manufacturing data. 4 . The system as recited in claim 3 , wherein the second set of data comprises wearable-specific data. 5 . The system as recited in claim 3 , wherein the second set of data comprises wearable-specific data that can enable wearable handling. 6 . The system as recited in claim 3 , wherein the second set of data comprises user-specific data. 7 . The system as recited in claim 3 , wherein the at least one RFID tag comprises one or more sensors and the second set of data comprises user-specific physical data collected about the physical user by the one or more sensors. 8 . The system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first set of data comprises wearable-specific data that can enable wearable handling and the at least one RFID tag comprises one or more sensors and the second set of data comprises user-specific physical data collected about the physical user by the one or more sensors. 9 . An RFID tag comprising: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) hardware to implement RFID operations; two RFID antennas to enable data to be transmitted and received by the RFID hardware, a first of the antennas, when enabled, being able to transmit a first set of data, a second of the antennas, when enabled, being able to transmit a second, different set of data; and a contact-activated switch on the RFID tag, the contact-activated switch having a first mode and a second mode, the first mode being associated with a first RFID tag state in which the first antenna is enabled and the second antenna is disabled, and the second mode being associated with a second RFID tag state in which the first antenna is disabled and the second antenna is enabled, wherein the contact-activated switch is configured to enable automatic selection of at least one of the first or second modes. 10 . The RFID tag as recited in claim 9 , wherein the first mode corresponds to a non-contact mode in which the contact-activated switch is not in contact with a user, and the second mode corresponds to a contact mode in which the contact-activated switch is in contact with the user. 11 . The RFID tag as recited in claim 10 , wherein the first set of data comprises manufacturing data. 12 . The RFID tag as recited in claim 11 , wherein the second set of data comprises wearable-specific data. 13 . The RFID tag as recited in claim 11 , wherein the second set of data comprises wearable-specific data that can enable wearable handling. 14 . The RFID tag as recited in claim 11 , wherein the second set of data comprises user-specific data. 15 . The RFID tag as recited in claim 11 , wherein the RFID tag comprises one or more sensors and the second set of data comprises user-specific physical data collected about the physical user by the one or more sensors. 16 . The RFID tag as recited in claim 10 , wherein the first set of data comprises wearable-specific data that can be used to for wearable handling. 17 . A method of operating an Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag comprising: maintaining a first state of an RFID tag mounted to a wearable textile article, the first state corresponding to transmission of a first set of data by a first antenna, the RFID tag including a contact-activated switch to selectively enable and disable the first antenna and a second antenna, wherein: when the first antenna is enabled, the first antenna transmits the first set of data and the second antenna is disabled; and when the second antenna is enabled, the second antenna transmits a second different set of data and the first antenna is disabled; receiving, by the contact-activated switch, a contact input; and, responsive to receiving the contact input, operating on the contact-activated switch effective to transition from the first state of the RFID tag to a second different state of the RFID tag in which the second antenna is enabled to transmit the second different set of data and the first antenna is disabled, wherein the contact-activated switch is configured to enable automatic transition to the second different state. 18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the first set of data comprises manufacturing data. 19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the second set of data comprises wearable-specific data. 20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the second set of data comprises user-specific data.
