Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A retention assembly is for a patient interface device. The patient interface device includes a cushion member structured to engage a face of a patient. The retention assembly includes: a retention member structured to be coupled to the cushion member; a headgear member; a first interconnect member removably coupled to the retention member; and a second interconnect member removably coupled to the headgear member. The second interconnect member is removably coupled to the first interconnect member in order to couple the headgear member to the retention member.

1 . A retention assembly for a patient interface device, the patient interface device comprising a cushion member structured to engage a face of a patient, the retention assembly comprising: a retention member structured to be coupled to and hold the cushion member; a headgear member having a strap member; a first interconnect member structured to be removably coupled to the retention member; and a second interconnect member structured to be removably coupled to an end of the strap member, the second interconnect member being removably coupled to the first interconnect member in order to couple the headgear member to the retention member. 2 . The retention assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the first interconnect member comprises a first body having an aperture; wherein the second interconnect member comprises a second body and a post extending therefrom; and wherein the post is structured to extend into the aperture in order to allow the second interconnect member to be removably coupled to the first interconnect member. 3 . The retention assembly according to claim 2 , wherein the first interconnect member further comprises a first magnet affixed to the first body; wherein the second interconnect member further comprises a second magnet affixed to the second body; and wherein the second magnet is magnetically attracted to the first magnet in order to allow the second interconnect member to be removably coupled to the first interconnect member. 4 . The retention assembly according to claim 2 , wherein the retention member has a branch member having a thru hole extending through a distal end of the branch member; and wherein the first body is structured to be received through the thru hole and held by the distal end of the branch member. 5 . The retention assembly according to claim 4 , wherein the first body comprises a first blocking portion and a second blocking portion; wherein the branch member has a first side portion and a second side portion each facing away from one another in opposing directions; wherein the first blocking portion is structured to engage the first side portion in order to prevent the first interconnect member from being pulled through the thru hole; and wherein the second blocking portion is structured to engage the second side portion in order to prevent the first interconnect member from being pulled through the thru hole. 6 . The retention assembly according to claim 5 , wherein each of the first blocking portion and the second blocking portion is disc-shaped; wherein the first blocking portion has a first diameter; wherein the second blocking portion has a second diameter greater than the first diameter; wherein the first blocking portion engages the second interconnect member; and wherein the second blocking portion is spaced from the second interconnect member. 7 . The retention assembly according to claim 2 , wherein the first body comprises a receiving portion and a blocking portion; wherein the receiving portion has a first side portion and a second side portion each facing away from one another in opposing directions; wherein the receiving portion has the aperture; and wherein the blocking portion is structured to engage the retention member in order to maintain engagement between the second interconnect member and the first side portion. 8 . The retention assembly according to claim 7 , wherein the first body further comprises a hook portion disposed between the receiving portion and the blocking portion; and wherein the hook portion is structured to be removably coupled to the retention member. 9 . The retention assembly according to claim 8 , wherein the first body further comprises a ridge portion extending from the second side portion; wherein the retention member has an edge portion defining an opening; and wherein the ridge portion is structured to engage the edge portion in order to prevent the first interconnect member from extending into the opening. 10 . The retention assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the retention member is a flexible mask frame; and wherein the first interconnect member is removably coupled to the flexible mask frame by a press-fit mechanism. 11 . The retention assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the retention member is a rigid mask frame; and wherein the first interconnect member is removably coupled to the rigid mask frame by a snap-fit mechanism. 12 . The retention assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the first interconnect member has a first coupling portion and a second coupling portion; wherein the second coupling portion is structured to be removably coupled to the second interconnect member; and wherein the first coupling portion is structured to be removably coupled to the retention member to form a secondary disconnect location for the retention assembly. 13 . The retention assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the second interconnect member has a first coupling portion and a second coupling portion; wherein the second coupling portion is structured to be removably coupled to the first interconnect member; and wherein the first coupling portion is structured to be removably coupled to the headgear member to form a secondary disconnect location for the retention assembly. 14 . The retention assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the first interconnect member comprises a first coupling portion and a second coupling portion; wherein the first coupling portion of the first interconnect member is removably coupled to the retention member; wherein the second interconnect member comprises a first coupling portion and a second coupling portion; wherein the first coupling portion of the second interconnect member is removably coupled to the headgear member; and wherein the second coupling portions are removably coupled to one another to form a primary disconnect location for the retention assembly. 15 . A patient interface device comprising: a cushion member structured to engage a face of a patient; and the retention assembly comprising: a retention member structured to be coupled to and hold the cushion member; a headgear member having a strap member; a first interconnect member structured to be removably coupled to the retention member; and a second interconnect member structured to be removably coupled to an end of the strap member, the second interconnect member being removably coupled to the first interconnect member in order to couple the headgear member to the retention member.
