In one embodiment, a safety trailer has semi-tractor hitches at both ends and a safety wall that is fixed to one side of the trailer. That side, however, can be changed to the right or left side of the road, depending on the end to which the truck attaches. A caboose can be attached at the end of the trailer opposite the tractor to provide additional lighting and impact protection. Optionally, the trailer can be equipped with overhead protection, lighting, ventilation, onboard hydraulics, compressors, generators and other equipment, as well as related fuel, water, storage and restroom facilities and other amenities.

I claim: 1 . A method comprising: providing a mobile barrier for use in military, riot control, and terrorism prevention operations, said mobile barrier comprising first and second platforms; a plurality of interconnected wall sections positioned between and connected to the first and second platforms, said plurality of wall sections defining a protected work area on a side of the barrier; providing a steerable caboose attached to the mobile barrier, said steerable caboose comprising a first steerable axle assembly and a second nonsteerable axle assembly; said first steerable axle assembly comprising a first axle, first and second hydraulic cylinders, first and second front hinges and first and second rear hinges and a tie rod engaged mechanically with the first and second front hinges, first and second rear hinges and first and second hydraulic cylinders to hydraulically steer left and right wheels attached to the first steerable axle assembly; wherein the tie rod locks into a lock position when in a nonsteering mode and unlocks from the lock position into an unlocked position when in a steering mode; said second nonsteerable axle assembly comprising a set of air bags to raise and lower a second axle and a pair of leaf springs that elastically deform to permit the second axle to be raised and lowered in response to deflation and inflation of the set of air bags respectively; selecting, by remote control, the unlock activator, which causes the tie rod to be placed in the unlocked position; selecting, by remote control, the raise activator to deflate the set of air bags and raise the second axle; selecting, by remote control left and right activators to rotate the left and right wheels on the first steerable axle assembly to the left and right respectively and thereby steer the caboose by activation of the hydraulic cylinders to a selected position for the mobile barrier; selecting, by remote control, the Sock activator to return the tie rod to the locked position when the barrier is in the selected position; selecting, by remote control, a lower activator to inflate the set of air bags and lower the second axle so that wheels attached to the second nonsteerable axle assembly are in contact with a travel surface. 2 . The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of selecting an override activator to interrupt the execution of any operation. 3 . The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of selecting a power activator to turn the remote control unit on and off. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the remote control is provided with a battery icon to indicate the battery power in the remote. 5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the remote control is provided with a signal strength icon to indicate the signal strength between the remote control and a wireless control unit in the caboose. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first axle is a front or rear axle on the caboose and the second axle is the other of the front or rear axle on the caboose. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the tie rod has a lock/unlock mechanism, and said lock/unlock mechanism is selected from the group comprising: a notch and engaging locking member or tab mechanism and a tongue and groove mechanism. 8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the set of air bags, by inflation and deflation, raise and lower, respectively, the rear trailer and thereby permits the wall sections to be positioned at the desired height and orientation to resist vehicular collisions and adjust overall ride and balance of the mobile barrier. 9 . The method of claim 1 wherein the caboose is capable of operating at either a back end or a front end of the barrier. 10 . The method of claim 1 wherein the caboose is self-propelled by either an electrical motor or other engine. 11 . A mobile barrier for use in military, riot control, and terrorism prevention operations, said mobile barrier comprising: first and second platforms; a plurality of interconnected wall sections positioned between and connected to the first and second platforms, said plurality of wall sections defining a protected work area on a side of the barrier; a first steerable caboose attached to the first platform, a second steerable caboose attached to the second platform wherein at least one of said first and second steerable cabooses has an engine to provide self-movement and power. 12 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , wherein a truck mounted attenuator (TMA) is positioned on each of the first and second steerable cabooses to provide crash attenuation at both ends of the trailer. 13 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , wherein the first and second platforms are constructed wider to allow the first and second steerable cabooses to steer while still enclosed by the deployed wall sections. 14 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , further comprising trailer stands that automatically drop and/or raise via air, hydraulics, electrical or other mechanical means. 15 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , wherein the barrier is double sided in that it has protective wall sections deployed on both sides of the first and second platforms with the protected work area being positioned in the center. 16 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , wherein the first and second steerable cabooses each have a steering mechanism capable of operating as either a back or a front of barrier. 17 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , wherein the engine is an electrical motor. 18 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of wall sections further comprise an outer wall skin and an interior armor layer that is fabricated out of a penetration or explosive resistant material, selected from the group comprising: Kevlar steel, solid armor, spaced armor, composite armor, high impact carbon fiber, special high strength steel, tungsten, ceramic and concrete. 19 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , wherein each wall section has at least one of the following features: the wall section further comprises an upper wall extension that increases a height of the wall section; or the wall section further comprises a lower wall extension that occupies at least part of a gap between a bottom of the wall section and a travel surface. 20 . The mobile barrier of claim 11 , wherein the first or second platforms includes one or more features selected from the group comprising: stationary turrets, rotating turrets, bullet/blast proofed enclosures, large caliber guns, small caliber guns, attachments for cameras, mine clearing devices, mine detecting devices, and other on-site and remotely viewable and/or controllable equipment.
