An air fairing device is connected below the bottom a frameless trailer to improve aerodynamic efficiency and improve fuel economy. One embodiment of the air fairing device provides an air deflector positioned forward of a trolley which supports the frameless trailer at a rear end. A second embodiment of the air fairing device provides two deflectors mounted below the frameless trailer. The first deflector is attached and extends downward from an articulating arm, said arm connecting the trailer to a semi-tractor or truck. The second deflector connected to below the bottom of the frameless trailer and positioned rear of the first deflector and forward of the trolley. A third embodiment is similar to the second but further includes a third deflector positioned between two axles of the trolley.

What is claimed: 1 . A frameless trailer comprising: a frameless body having a front end spaced from a rear end defining a longitudinal direction therebetween; a set of ground-engaging wheels mounted under the frameless body; an articulating arm connected to the frameless body at a connection member, wherein a forward portion of the articulating arm is adapted to releasably connect to a truck for towing the frameless trailer and wherein the frameless body is adapted to carry bulk materials therein; and a first air fairing carried by the articulating arm, wherein a portion of the first air fairing is forward of the connection member. 2 . The frameless trailer of claim 1 , wherein the first air fairing includes an edge aligned parallel to ground when the articulating arm is connected to the truck. 3 . The frameless trailer of claim 1 , wherein the first air fairing includes an axially aligned smaller surface connected to a major surface. 4 . The frameless trailer of claim 3 , wherein the smaller surface is oriented orthogonal to the major surface. 5 . The frameless trailer of claim 1 , wherein the first air fairing includes a top surface coupled to the articulating arm. 6 . The frameless trailer of claim 5 , wherein the top surface is rigidly connected to the articulating arm. 7 . The frameless trailer of claim 6 , further comprising a bottom surface on the articulating arm, wherein the top surface of the first air fairing is rigidly connected to the bottom surface of the articulating arm. 8 . The frameless trailer of claim 7 , wherein the bottom surface of the articulating arm is defined by a cross member, and the top surface of the first air fairing is connected to the cross member. 9 . The frameless trailer of claim 6 , wherein the top surface of the first air fairing is coupled near a bottom surface on the articulating arm. 10 . The frameless trailer of claim 1 , wherein the first air fairing includes a foremost apex region positioned forwardly from the connection member. 11 . The frameless trailer of claim 10 , wherein the first air fairing further includes a left segment extending rearwardly and to the left from the apex region and positioned forwardly from the connection member. 12 . The frameless trailer of claim 10 , wherein the first air fairing further includes a right segment extending rearwardly and to the right from the apex region and positioned forwardly from the connection member. 13 . The frameless trailer of claim 10 , wherein the apex region is curved relative to the longitudinal direction of the frameless trailer. 14 . The frameless trailer of claim 1 , wherein the first air fairing includes a rearmost edge positioned forwardly from the connection member. 15 . The frameless trailer of claim 1 , further comprising: landing gear connected to the articulating arm; and wherein a portion of the first air fairing is parallel to ground when the landing gear engages the ground. 16 . The frameless trailer of claim 15 , wherein a top surface of the first air fairing is parallel to ground when the landing gear engages the ground. 17 . The frameless trailer of claim 16 , wherein the top surface of the first air fairing is positioned rearward from the landing gear. 18 . The trailer of claim 1 , further comprising: a mounting member coupling the first air fairing to the articulating arm. 19 . The trailer of claim 18 , wherein the mounting member is connected to an inner surface of the first air fairing. 20 . The frameless trailer of claim 19 , wherein the mounting member is flexible and adapted to enable the first air fairing to flex when subjected to air forces as the frameless trailer is towed forwardly.
