Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Disclosed are methods, systems, and computer-readable media for wireless key management for authentication. Authentication includes transmitting a request to a locking device, transmitting a security challenge to the mobile device, and transmitting a response to the challenge and an encrypted user profile for the locking device. The response includes data generated with an access key that is stored by both the mobile device and the locking device, and the user profile is encrypted by a server using a secret key that is stored by the server and the locking device. Authentication further includes verifying the response to the challenge, where the response is verified using the access key, and validating additional data from the mobile device. An action of the locking device may be initiated as specified by the request.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method, comprising: establishing, at a mobile device, communication with a padlock via a first wireless transceiver of the mobile device and a second wireless transceiver of the padlock, the padlock comprising a shackle, a locking device structured to lock and unlock the shackle, and a processing circuit configured to control the locking device; determining, using a location determination circuit of the mobile device, a location of the mobile device responsive to the communication with the padlock, the location being indicative of a determined location of the padlock; storing the location in a memory of the mobile device; and retrieving the stored location from the memory of the mobile device and providing the stored location to a user. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the location determination circuit comprises a GPS device of the mobile device. 3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a mapping interface on a display of the mobile device graphically illustrating the location of the padlock. 4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the location is a last known location of the padlock. 5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the mapping interface further comprises points of interest other than the location of the padlock. 6 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising providing navigational directions on the mobile device to navigate to the location of the padlock. 7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing permission, via the mobile device, for a guest user to access the padlock using a second mobile device. 8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein providing the permission comprises causing data to be transmitted to the second mobile device usable by the second mobile device to control unlocking of the padlock. 9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising transmitting, by the second mobile device, the data to the padlock, the data configured to cause the processing circuit of the padlock to activate the locking device of the padlock to lock or unlock the shackle in response to verification of the data by the processing circuit. 10 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising determining a limitation to the access of the padlock by the guest user. 11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein determining the limitation comprises limiting access by the guest user to a maximum number of unlocking times of the padlock. 12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein determining the limitation comprises limiting access by the guest user to a predetermined schedule. 13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the predetermined schedule comprises a start time and an end time for the access granted to the guest user. 14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the predetermined schedule comprises a day of the week for the access granted to the user. 15 . A computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor of a mobile device, cause the mobile device to implement operations comprising: establishing communication between the mobile device and a padlock via a first wireless transceiver of the mobile device and a second wireless transceiver of the padlock, the padlock comprising a shackle, a locking device structured to lock and unlock the shackle, and a processing circuit configured to control the locking device; determining, using a location determination circuit of the mobile device, a location of the mobile device responsive to the communication with the padlock; storing the location in a memory of the mobile device, the location indicative of a last known location of the padlock by the mobile device; and retrieving the location from the memory of the mobile device and providing an indication of the last known location of the padlock to a user. 16 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , the operations further comprising displaying a mapping interface on a display of the mobile device graphically illustrating the last known location of the padlock, wherein the mapping interface further comprises points of interest other than the last known location of the padlock. 17 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , the operations further comprising providing navigational directions on the mobile device to navigate to the last known location of the padlock. 18 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , the operations further comprising providing permission, via the mobile device, for a guest user to access the padlock using a second mobile device, wherein providing the permission comprises causing data to be transmitted to the second mobile device usable by the second mobile device to control unlocking of the padlock, and wherein providing the permission comprises causing data to be transmitted to the second mobile device usable by the second mobile device to control unlocking of the padlock. 19 . The method of claim 18 , the operations further comprising determining limitations to the access of the padlock by the guest user, determining the limitations comprising allowing a user to: limit access by the guest user to a maximum number of unlocking times of the padlock; and limit access by the guest user to a predetermined schedule, the predetermined schedule comprising at least one of: a start time and an end time for the access; or a day of the week for the access. 20 . A mobile device comprising: a first wireless transceiver; a location determination circuit; a display; a memory; and a processing circuit configured to execute instructions stored in the memory to: establish communication between the mobile device and a padlock via the first wireless transceiver and a second wireless transceiver of the padlock, the padlock comprising a shackle, a locking device structured to lock and unlock the shackle, and a processing circuit configured to control the locking device; determine, using the location determination circuit, a location of the mobile device responsive to the communication with the padlock; store the location in the memory, the location indicative of a last known location of the padlock by the mobile device; and display a mapping interface on the display graphically illustrating the last known location of the padlock, wherein the mapping interface further comprises points of interest other than the last known location of the padlock; and providing navigational directions on the mobile device to navigate to the last known location of the padlock.
