Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method, implemented as computer code being executed by one or more processors, in which computer game graphics for a casual, social game are shown on a display of a computing device, where the casual, social game is downloaded as an app to a smartphone and/or tablet computer and can be accessed or played using a social network application or environment; and in which one or more of the processors are programmed such that: a notification is automatically generated if a player is stuck at a level for more than a defined time or after more than a defined number of attempts to pass that level, the notification alerting friends of the player so that they can assist him or her.

1 . A computing device adapted to play a computer game, the device including a processor, a memory, a display, a network interface, and computer code stored in device memory and executable by the device processor to perform the steps of: controlling the display to show game graphics for the computer game; generate a notification if a player has run out of lives, a player requests help, a player is stuck at a level for more than a defined time or after more than a defined number of attempts to pass that level, the notification comprising a request for help, transmitting the notification to a further computing device via the network interface, said notification being a push notification; wherein the notification comprises a link configured such that user input associated with the link causes: if the further computing device does not have the computer game installed or activated, the further computing device to load a webpage or application store for downloading or activating the game; and if the further computing device does have the computer game installed or activated, the further computing device to launch the computer game, wherein the computing device is further configured to receive a second notification of assistance. 2 . A computing device as claimed in claim 1 , further configured to: subsequent to receiving the further notification of assistance, become configured to receive requests for help. 3 . A computing device as claimed in claim 1 , further configured to control the display to show a prompt to ask for help in dependence upon user derived player characteristics. 4 . A computing device as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the user derived player characteristics comprise at least one of: location; and player game experience. 5 . A computing device as claimed in claim 1 , further configured to control the display to show a notification of assistance after a predefined time period has elapsed. 6 . The computing device as claimed in claim 2 , further configured to: send the request for help with a generated and editable alias. 7 . A computing device as claimed in claim 1 , further configured to, require push notifications to be set to on for the computing device when sending the notification. 8 . A computing device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the step of sending the notification comprises registering a user ID with the server. 9 . A computing device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the notification comprises at least one of: an SMS; and an Email. 10 . A method for controlling the content and transmission of game related messages provided by a computing device comprising a processor, a display, a memory, and a network interface, the method comprising executing on the processor the steps of: controlling the display to show game graphics for the computer game; generate a notification if a player has run out of lives, a player requests help, a player is stuck at a level for more than a defined time or after more than a defined number of attempts to pass that level, the notification comprising a request for help, transmitting the notification to a further computing device via the network interface, said notification being a push notification; wherein the notification comprises a link configured such that user input associated with the link causes: if the further computing device does not have the computer game installed or activated, the further computing device to load a webpage or application store for downloading or activating the game; and if the further computing device does have the computer game installed or activated, the further computing device to launch the computer game, wherein the method further comprises receiving a second notification of assistance. 11 . A non-transitory computer readable medium encoded with instructions which, when executed by a processor of a computing device comprising a display, a memory, and a network interface, performs a method for controlling the content and transmission of game related messages: controlling the display to show game graphics for the computer game; generate a notification if a player has run out of lives, a player requests help, a player is stuck at a level for more than a defined time or after more than a defined number of attempts to pass that level, the notification comprising a request for help, transmitting the notification to a further computing device via the network interface, said notification being a push notification; wherein the notification comprises a link configured such that user input associated with the link causes: if the further computing device does not have the computer game installed or activated, the further computing device to load a webpage or application store for downloading or activating the game; and if the further computing device does have the computer game installed or activated, the further computing device to launch the computer game, wherein the method further comprises receiving a second notification of assistance. 12 . A computing device adapted to play a computer game, the device including a processor, a memory, a display, a network interface, and computer code stored in device memory and executable by the device processor to perform the steps of: controlling the display to show game graphics for the computer game; receiving a notification from a further computing device via the network interface, the notification indicating that a player of the further computing device has run out of lives, the player requests help, the player is stuck at a level for more than a defined time or after more than a defined number of attempts to pass that level, the notification comprising a request for help, said notification being a push notification and comprising a link; and in response to user input associated with the link: determining whether the computing device has the computer game installed or activated; if the computing device does not have the computer game installed or activated, loading a webpage or application store for downloading or activating the game; and if the computing device does have the computer game installed or activated, launching the computer game and transmitting to the further computing device a further notification of assistance. 13 . A method for receiving and processing game related messages provided by a computing device comprising a processor, a display, a memory, and a network interface, the method comprising executing on the processor the steps of: controlling the display to show game graphics for the computer game; receiving a notification from a further computing device via the network interface, the notification indicating that a player of the further computing device has run out of lives, the player requests help, the player is stuck at a level for more than a defined time or after more than a defined number of attempts to pass that level, the notification comprising a request for help, said notification being a push notification and comprising a link; in response to user input associated with the link: determining whether the computing device has the computer game installed or activated; if the computing device does not have the computer game installed or activated, loading a webpage or application store for downloading or activating the game; and if the computing device does have the computer game installed or activated, launching the computer game and transmitting to the further computing device a further notification of assistance. 14 . A non-transitory computer readable medium encoded with instructions which, when executed by a process
