Methods and apparatus to manage and execute action in computing environments are disclosed. An example system includes a virtual machine resource platform to host a virtual compute node; and a resource manager to: install an interface to receive an adapter configured to initiate an action that operates on the virtual compute node, install the adapter by processing an adapter definition to identify an action specified by the adapter, trigger an alert based on collected data associated with the virtual compute node, in response to the alert, trigger the action to be executed using a parameter extracted from the collected data, and execute the action to operate on the compute node.

What is claimed is: 1 . A system comprising: a virtual machine resource platform to host a virtual compute node; and a resource manager to: install an interface to receive an adapter configured to initiate an action that operates on the virtual compute node; install the adapter by processing an adapter definition to identify an action specified by the adapter; trigger an alert based on collected data associated with the virtual compute node; in response to the alert, trigger the action to be executed using a parameter extracted from the collected data; and execute the action to operate on the compute node. 2 . A system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the resource manager is further to collect the data from execution of the virtual computer node. 3 . A system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the resource manager is to monitor execution of the action. 4 . A system as defined in claim 3 , wherein the resource manager is to present a user interface identifying a result of the execution of the action. 5 . A system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the adapter is a first adapter and the alert is triggered by collected data collected by a second adapter. 6 . A system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the adapter initiates execution of the action via an interface to a script. 7 . A system as defined in claim 1 , wherein the interface is configured to: receive an identification of an action; receive a parameter collected by the resource manager; and generate a call to the action. 8 . A method to manage actions in a computing environment, the method comprising: installing an interface to receive an adapter configured to initiate an action that operates on a virtual compute node hosted on a virtual machine resource platform; installing the adapter by processing an adapter definition to identify an action specified by the adapter; triggering an alert based on collected data associated with the virtual compute node; in response to the alert, triggering the action to be executed using a parameter extracted from the collected data; and executing the action to operate on the compute node. 9 . A method as defined in claim 8 , further including collecting the data from execution of the virtual computer node. 10 . A method as defined in claim 8 , further including monitoring execution of the action. 11 . A method as defined in claim 10 , further including presenting a user interface identifying a result of the execution of the action. 12 . A method as defined in claim 8 , wherein the adapter is a first adapter and the alert is triggered by collected data collected by a second adapter. 13 . A method as defined in claim 8 , wherein the adapter initiates execution of the action via an interface to a script. 14 . A method as defined in claim 8 , further including: receiving an identification of an action; receiving a parameter collected by the resource manager; and generating a call to the action. 15 . A tangible computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed cause a machine to at least: install an interface to receive an adapter configured to initiate an action that operates on a virtual compute node hosted on a virtual machine resource platform; install the adapter by processing an adapter definition to identify an action specified by the adapter; trigger an alert based on collected data associated with the virtual compute node; in response to the alert, triggering the action to be executed using a parameter extracted from the collected data; and execute the action to operate on the compute node. 16 . A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to collect the data from execution of the virtual computer node. 17 . A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to monitor execution of the action. 18 . A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to present a user interface identifying a result of the execution of the action. 19 . A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 15 , wherein the adapter is a first adapter and the alert is triggered by collected data collected by a second adapter. 20 . A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 15 , wherein the adapter initiates execution of the action via an interface to a script. 21 . A tangible computer readable storage medium as defined in claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the machine to: receive an identification of an action; receive a parameter collected by the resource manager; and generate a call to the action.
