Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An evacuation system is provided. The system may comprise a door sill, a girt coupled to the door sill, a slide coupled to the girt, and a measurement device coupled the girt and/or the slide. The measurement device may further comprise a line having a predetermined length and a weight coupled to the line, and the measurement device may be configured to adjust a length of the slide in response to a position of the weight. A method is also provided. The method includes opening a door to expose a door sill, inflating the emergency slide with the emergency slide coupled to the door sill, and deploying a measurement device configured to measure a height of the door sill from a surface. The measurement device may comprise a line coupled to the door sill and a buoyant weight coupled to the line, and wherein the line has a predetermined length.

What is claimed is: 1 . A measurement device, comprising: a slide; a line having a predetermined length and coupled to the slide; and a weight coupled to the line, wherein the measurement device is configured to exert a force on an inflation regulator in response to a position of the weight, wherein the inflation regulator is configured to at least one of inflate or deflate the slide in response to the force. 2 . The measurement device of claim 1 , wherein the weight is buoyant in water. 3 . The measurement device of claim 2 , wherein the weight comprises at least one of a survival kit or a canopy pouch. 4 . The measurement device of claim 3 , wherein the line comprises at least one of a rope, a cable, a wire, a lanyard, or a braiding. 5 . The measurement device of claim 4 , wherein the inflation regulator is configured to open fluid communication to inflate an extension in response to the line suspending the weight. 6 . The measurement device of claim 4 , wherein the inflation regulator is configured to open fluid communication to deflate an extension in response to the weight contacting an exit surface. 7 . The measurement device of claim 4 , further comprising a girt coupled to the slide and the line. 8 . An evacuation system, comprising: a door sill; a girt coupled to the door sill; a slide coupled to the girt; and a measurement device coupled to at least one of the girt or the slide, wherein the measurement device comprises a line having a predetermined length and a weight coupled to the line, and wherein the measurement device is configured to adjust a length of the slide in response to a position of the weight. 9 . The evacuation system of claim 8 , wherein the weight is buoyant. 10 . The evacuation system of claim 9 , wherein the weight comprises at least one of a survival kit or a canopy pouch. 11 . The evacuation system of claim 10 , wherein the line comprises at least one of a rope, a cable, a wire, a lanyard, or a braiding. 12 . The evacuation system of claim 11 , wherein the measurement device is configured to inflate an extension in response to the line suspending the weight. 13 . The evacuation system of claim 11 , wherein the measurement device is configured to deflate an extension in response to the weight contacting an exit surface. 14 . The evacuation system of claim 11 , wherein the length of the line is selected based on a desired slide length for a sill height. 15 . A method for deploying an emergency slide, comprising: opening a door to expose a door sill; inflating the emergency slide with the emergency slide coupled to the door sill; and deploying a measurement device configured to measure a height of the door sill from a surface, wherein the measurement device comprises a line coupled to the door sill and a buoyant weight coupled to the line. 16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the buoyant weight comprises at least one of a survival kit or a canopy pouch. 17 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising inflating an extension of the emergency slide in response to the measurement device being in a fully extended state. 18 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising deflating an extension in response to the measurement device being in a partially extended state. 19 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the emergency slide is coupled to the door sill through a girt and the measurement device is coupled to the girt. 20 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the line comprises at least one of a rope, a cable, a wire, a lanyard, or a braiding.
