Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A reciprocating saw blade for use with a reciprocating saw, the saw blade including a body including a first substantially planar surface and a second substantially planar surface opposite the first surface, an attachment portion for coupling the saw blade to the reciprocating saw, a cutting edge including a plurality of cutting teeth, and a rib element including a pair of outermost rib members. One of the outermost rib members is proximate the cutting edge and the other of the outermost rib members is proximate a back edge of the blade opposite the cutting edge. Each outermost rib member includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portions of each of the ribs are substantially parallel to one another.

First claim

1 . A reciprocating saw blade for use with a reciprocating saw, the saw blade comprising: a body including a first planar surface and a second planar surface opposite the first surface; an attachment portion including a tang and an aperture for coupling the saw blade to the reciprocating saw; a cutting edge including a plurality of cutting teeth; and a rib arrangement including a first rib and a second rib that each include a first portion and a second portion, the first portion of each of the ribs extends at least partially along the attachment portion proximate the aperture on opposing sides of the aperture such that the aperture is disposed between the first portions, and the second portion of each of the ribs extends along at least a portion of the body. 2 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 1 , wherein the attachment portion defines a first width and the body defines a second width that is greater than the first width. 3 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the first rib is parallel to the first portion of the second rib. 4 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 1 , wherein the first rib and the second rib form protrusions on the first planar surface of the saw blade. 5 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 1 , wherein the second portion of the first rib is disposed adjacent the cutting edge and the second portion of the second rib is disposed adjacent another edge of the body. 6 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 1 , wherein the rib arrangement further includes a third rib. 7 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 6 , wherein the third rib is disposed between the first rib and the second rib. 8 . A reciprocating saw blade for use with a reciprocating saw, the saw blade comprising: a body including a first planar surface and a second planar surface opposite the first surface; an attachment portion including a tang and an aperture for coupling the saw blade to the reciprocating saw; a cutting edge including a plurality of cutting teeth; and a rib arrangement formed on the first planar surface including a first rib and a second rib, each rib including a first portion and a second portion connected by an intermediate portion, the first portions of the first rib and the second rib being parallel to one another, the intermediate portion of the first rib extending from the first portion toward the cutting edge, and the intermediate portion of the second rib extending from the first portion toward an edge of the saw blade opposite the cutting edge. 9 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 8 , wherein the attachment portion defines a first width and the body defines a second width that is greater than the first width. 10 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 8 , wherein the intermediate portion of the first rib is parallel to the intermediate portion of the second rib. 11 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 8 , wherein the intermediate portions are aligned along a common axis. 12 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 8 , wherein the first portion of the first rib is parallel to and spaced from the second portion of the first rib. 13 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 8 , wherein the second portion of the first rib is parallel to the cutting edge, and wherein the second portion of the second rib is parallel to the edge of the saw blade opposite the cutting edge. 14 . A reciprocating saw blade for use with a reciprocating saw, the saw blade comprising: a body including a first planar surface and a second planar surface opposite the first surface; an attachment portion including a tang and an aperture for coupling the saw blade to the reciprocating saw; a cutting edge including a plurality of cutting teeth; and a rib arrangement including a first rib and a second rib that each include a first portion and a second portion offset from the first portion, wherein the first portion of the first rib extends along a first axis, and the second portion of the first rib extends along a second axis parallel to and spaced from the first axis. 15 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 14 , wherein the first portion of the second rib extends along a third axis, and the second portion of the second rib extends along a fourth axis that is parallel to and spaced from the third axis. 16 . The reciprocating saw of claim 15 , wherein the first axis is parallel to the third axis. 17 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 15 , wherein the first rib and the second rib each include an intermediate portion that extends between the first portion and the second portion. 18 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 14 , wherein the first portion of the first rib and the first portion of the second rib each extend along the attachment portion proximate the aperture on opposing sides of the aperture such that the aperture is disposed between the first portions. 19 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 14 , wherein the first rib includes an intermediate portion extending between the first portion and the second portion. 20 . The reciprocating saw blade of claim 14 , wherein the first portions are defined at least partially on each of the attachment portion and the body.
