Official abstract text for this publication.
A computer-implemented method includes accessing a user database, accessing a transport database, and generating a global recommended travel plan. The user database includes travel preferences and a metric preference for each user. The travel preferences include an origin, and a destination. The transport database includes transport data. The global recommended travel plan includes, for each user, a recommended route from the user's origin to the user's destination, a recommended mode, and a recommended start time. Generating the global recommended travel plan includes simultaneously optimizing each user's metric preference based on the transport data and the travel preferences. The computer-implemented method further includes returning each user's recommended route, recommended mode, and recommended start time. A corresponding computer program product and computer system are also disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1 . A computer-implemented method comprising: accessing a user database, wherein said user database comprises travel preferences and a metric preference for each user of a group of users, and wherein said travel preferences comprise an origin and a destination; accessing a transport database, wherein said transport database comprises transport data; generating a global recommended travel plan, wherein said global recommended travel plan comprises, for each user of said group of users, a recommended route, wherein said recommended route is from said origin to said destination, a recommended mode, and a recommended start time; said generating a global recommended travel plan being effected by simultaneously optimizing said metric preference for all users of said group of users, based on said transport data and said travel preferences; and returning, for each user of said group of users, said recommended route, said recommended mode, and said recommended start time. 2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said recommended mode comprises at least two alternative modes. 3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said travel preferences further comprise a mode preference. 4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein at least some users of said group of users are members of an organization, and wherein said transport data comprises data internal to said organization that is aggregated from any source selected from the group consisting of: (a) internal publication data; (b) internal social media message data; and (c) internal person-to-person message data. 5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 wherein each user of said group of users is provided a choice, for said metric preference, comprising at least one metric selected from the group consisting of: (a) environmental impact; (b) productive time; and (c) safety. 6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said transport data comprises data aggregated from: (a) distributively reported traffic data; (b) centrally reported traffic data; (c) distributively reported weather data; (d) centrally reported weather data; (e) modal policy data; (f) modal news data; (g) modal statistical data; (h) general news data; and (i) public social media message data. 7 . A computer system, the computer system comprising: one or more computer processors; one or more computer readable storage media; a user database, wherein said user database comprises travel preferences and a metric preference for each user of a group of users, and wherein said travel preferences comprise an origin and a destination; a transport database, wherein said transport database comprises transport data; a journey planning program; an analytics engine; computer program instructions; said computer program instructions comprising instructions for said journey planning program and instructions for said analytics engine; said computer program instructions being stored on said one or more computer readable storage media for execution by said one or more computer processors; and said instructions for said journey planning program comprising instructions to: access said user database; access said transport database; generate, using said analytics engine, a global recommended travel plan, wherein said global recommended travel plan comprises, for each user of said group of users, a recommended route, wherein said recommended route is from said origin to said destination, a recommended mode, and a recommended start time; said instructions to generate a global recommended travel plan comprising instructions to simultaneously optimize said metric preference for all users of said group of users, based on said transport data and said travel preferences; and return, for each user of said group of users, said recommended route, said recommended mode, and said recommended start time. 8 . The computer system of claim 7 , wherein said recommended mode comprises at least two alternative modes. 9 . The computer system of claim 7 , wherein said travel preferences further comprise a mode preference. 10 . The computer system of claim 7 , wherein at least some users of said group of users are members of an organization, and wherein said transport data comprises data internal to said organization that is aggregated and parsed from any source selected from the group of: (a) internal publication data; (b) internal social media message data; or (c) internal person-to-person message data. 11 . The computer system of claim 7 wherein each user of said group of users is provided a choice, for said metric preference, comprising at least one metric selected from the group of: (a) environmental impact; (b) productive time; or (c) safety. 12 . The computer system of claim 7 , wherein said transport data comprises data aggregated from: (a) distributively reported traffic data; (b) centrally reported traffic data; (c) distributively reported weather data; (d) centrally reported weather data; (e) modal policy data; (f) modal news data; (g) modal statistical data; (h) general news data; and (i) public social media message data. 13 . A computer program product, the computer program product comprising one or more computer readable storage media and program instructions stored on said one or more computer readable storage media, said program instructions comprising instructions to: access a user database, wherein said user database comprises travel preferences and a metric preference for each user of a group of users, and wherein said travel preferences comprise a mode preference, an origin, and a destination; access a transport database, wherein said transport database comprises transport data; generate a global recommended travel plan, wherein said global recommended travel plan comprises, for each user of said group of users, a recommended route, wherein said recommended route is from said origin to said destination, a recommended mode, and a recommended start time; said instructions to generate a global recommended travel plan comprising instructions to simultaneously optimizing said metric preference for all users of said group of users, based on said transport data and said travel preferences; and return, for each user of said group of users, said recommended route, said recommended mode, and said recommended start time. 14 . The computer program product of claim 13 , wherein said recommended mode comprises at least two alternative modes. 15 . The computer program product of claim 13 , wherein said travel preferences further comprise a mode preference. 16 .
