Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An article of footwear including a sole component including a baseplate having a bottom surface and at least a first ground engaging member extending substantially downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, and a first elongate support member extending substantially downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, abutting the first ground engaging member at a side portion, and extending horizontally from the side portion of the first ground engaging member. The ground engaging member may include a lower portion and an upper portion, the upper portion extending downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, the lower portion being made of a different material than the upper portion. The distance that the elongate support member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate is less than the distance that the ground engaging member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate.

1 - 40 . (canceled) 41 . An article of footwear, comprising: an upper configured with an interior void to receive insertion of a user's foot; a sole component fixedly attached to a bottom portion of the upper, the sole component including: a baseplate having a bottom surface and at least one ground engaging member extending substantially downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate; and an elongate support member extending substantially downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, abutting the ground engaging member at a side portion, and extending horizontally from the side portion of the ground engaging member; wherein the ground engaging member includes a lower portion and an upper portion, the upper portion extending downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, the lower portion being made of a different material than the upper portion; and wherein the distance that the elongate support member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate is less than the distance that the ground engaging member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate. 42 . The article of footwear according to claim 41 , wherein the distance that the elongate support member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate is more than half of the distance that the ground engaging member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate. 43 . The article of footwear according to claim 41 , wherein the distance that the elongate support member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate is less than half of the distance that the ground engaging member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate. 44 . The article of footwear according to claim 41 , wherein the distance that the elongate support member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate is half of the distance that the ground engaging member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate. 45 . The article of footwear according to claim 41 , wherein the lower portion of the ground engaging member is formed of a softer material than the upper portion of the ground engaging member. 46 . The article of footwear according to claim 41 , wherein the lower portion of the ground engaging member is removably fastened to the upper portion of the ground engaging member. 47 . The article of footwear according to claim 41 , wherein the elongate support member is formed of the same material as the upper portion of the ground engaging member. 48 . The article of footwear according to claim 41 , wherein the elongate support member has a horizontal length and a horizontal width, and wherein the horizontal width of the elongate support member is substantially the same over the horizontal length of the elongate support member. 49 . An article of footwear, comprising: an upper configured with an interior void to receive insertion of a user's foot; a sole component fixedly attached to a bottom portion of the upper, the sole component including: a baseplate having a bottom surface and at least one ground engaging member extending substantially downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate; and an elongate support member extending substantially downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, abutting a side of an upper portion of the ground engaging member, and extending horizontally from the side of the upper portion of the ground engaging member; wherein the distance that the elongate support member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate is less than the distance that the ground engaging member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, such that a lower portion of the ground engaging member extends beyond a downward-most portion of the elongate support member; and wherein the lower portion of the ground engaging member that extends beyond the downward-most portion of the elongate support member is formed of a different material than the upper portion of the ground engaging member. 50 . The article of footwear according to claim 49 , wherein the ground engaging member has a first height extending from the bottom surface of the baseplate and the elongate support member has a second height extending from the bottom surface of the baseplate; and wherein the first height is greater than the second height. 51 . The article of footwear according to claim 50 , wherein the second height is greater than half of the first height. 52 . The article of footwear according to claim 50 , wherein the second height is less than half of the first height. 53 . The article of footwear according to claim 50 , wherein the second height is half of the first height. 54 . The article of footwear according to claim 51 , wherein the lower portion of the ground engaging member is formed of a softer material than the upper portion of the ground engaging member. 55 . The article of footwear according to claim 49 , wherein the upper portion of the ground engaging member extends at least as far downward from the baseplate as the elongate support member extends downward from the baseplate. 56 . The article of footwear according to claim 49 , wherein the elongate support member is formed of the same material as the upper portion of the ground engaging member. 57 . An article of footwear, comprising: an upper configured with an interior void to receive insertion of a user's foot; a sole component fixedly attached to a bottom portion of the upper, the sole component including: a baseplate having a bottom surface and at least one ground engaging member extending substantially downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate; and an elongate support member extending substantially downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, abutting the ground engaging member at a side portion, and extending horizontally from the side portion of the ground engaging member; wherein the distance that the elongate support member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate is less than the distance that the ground engaging member extends downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate; wherein the ground engaging member has an upper portion extending downward from the bottom surface of the baseplate, and a tip portion disposed below a downward-most portion of the elongate support member; and wherein the tip portion of the ground engaging member is formed of a different material than the upper portion of the ground engaging member. 58 . The article of footwear according to claim 57 , wherein the elongate support member includes a downward facing edge extending between the ground engaging member and the bottom surface of the baseplate, wherein the downward facing edge of the elongate support member intersects with the side portion of the ground engaging member. 59 .
