Simulator systems for teaching patient care are provided. In some instances, the simulator system includes a maternal simulator sized and shaped to simulate a pregnant woman, the maternal simulator including a torso, arms, legs, and a head, wherein the torso includes a chamber sized and shaped to receive a fetal simulator and wherein a birthing mechanism is disposed within the chamber for providing rotational and translational movement to the fetal simulator in a birthing simulation; and a fetal simulator sized and shaped to simulate a fetus, the fetal simulator configured to be selectively engaged with the birthing mechanism of the maternal simulator.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method for teaching patient care, the method comprising: providing rotational and translational movement to a fetal simulator with a birthing mechanism disposed within a torso of a maternal simulator, wherein the birthing mechanism selectively engages the fetal simulator such that the fetal simulator is fixedly engaged with the birthing mechanism during the rotational and translational movement and disengaged from the birthing mechanism when the fetal simulator is to be removed from the maternal simulator. 2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising dilating a cervix of the maternal simulator to simulate various stages of dilation. 3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the cervix is dilated from about 2 cm to about 10 cm. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the birthing mechanism fixedly engages the fetal simulator in a manner to simulate a breech delivery. 5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising monitoring a force applied to the fetal simulator during a breech delivery simulation. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the birthing mechanism fixedly engages the fetal simulator in a manner to simulate a normal delivery. 7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying fetal vital signs associated with the fetal simulator. 8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the displaying the fetal vital signs includes synchronizing a fetal heart rate to contractions of the maternal simulator. 9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the fetal heart rate is measured by an external fetal heart monitor coupled to the maternal simulator. 10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising simulating maternal contractions with the maternal simulator. 11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising monitoring the maternal contractions with an external contractions monitor. 12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the simulating the maternal contractions includes varying air pressure in a tummy of the maternal simulator. 13 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the simulating the maternal contractions includes varying an intensity and/or varying an interval of the maternal contractions. 14 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising communicating data wirelessly between the maternal simulator and an external device. 15 . A method for teaching patient care, the method comprising: coupling a fetal simulator to a birthing mechanism of a maternal simulator; engaging a locking mechanism of the birthing mechanism to fixedly secure the fetal simulator to the birthing mechanism; utilizing the birthing mechanism to provide rotational and translational movement to the fetal simulator to simulate a birthing sequence; and releasing the locking mechanism of the birthing mechanism to allow the fetal simulator to be removed from the birthing mechanism and the maternal simulator. 16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the releasing the locking mechanism occurs based on a position of the fetal simulator within a birth canal of the maternal simulator. 17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the locking mechanism automatically releases when the fetal simulator reaches a particular orientation and/or position within the birth canal. 18 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the releasing the locking mechanism occurs based on a release input from a user.
