Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A portable light may comprise: a light body defining at least a part of a passage, a light source supported by the light body, a switch for controlling the light source, and a deployable hanger for hanging the light from an object. The deployable hanger may comprise: a spring finger proximate the passage, and a hanger ring having at least first and second flat surfaces disposed in the passage and engaging the spring finger. The spring finger bears against the first flat surface of the hanger ring for biasing the hanger ring to a first position and bears against the second flat surface of the hanger ring for biasing the hanger ring to a second position.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1 . A portable light comprising: a light body having a cavity for receiving a source of electrical power therein; a light source supported by said light body and oriented for emitting light in a direction away from said light body; a switch actuator on said light body for controlling said light source for selectively producing light, and a stowable hanger affixed to said light body for hanging said light body from an object, said stowable hanger comprising: a bracket affixed to said light body and defining a relatively straight passage between said bracket and said light body, said bracket including a spring finger proximate the passage; and a hanger ring having a relatively straight portion having at least first and second flat surfaces thereon disposed in the passage and engaging the spring finger of said bracket, wherein the spring finger of said bracket bears against the first flat surface of said hanger ring for biasing said hanger ring to a first position and bears against the second flat surface of said hanger ring for biasing said hanger ring to a second position. 2 . The portable light of claim 1 wherein said hanger ring includes a spring-loaded clip closing an opening in said hanger ring. 3 . The portable light of claim 1 wherein: said bracket is affixed to said light body by a fastener; or said bracket is affixed to said light body by a fastener that extends through said light body to engage said light source. 4 . The portable light of claim 1 wherein the first and second flat surfaces of said hanger ring are about 180° apart. 5 . The portable light of claim 1 wherein the first position of said hanger ring is adjacent said light body 6 . A portable light comprising: a light body having a cavity for receiving a source of electrical power therein; a light source supported by said light body and oriented for emitting light in a direction away from said light body; a switch actuator on said light body for controlling said light source for selectively producing light, and a deployable hanger affixed to said light body for hanging said light body from an object, said deployable hanger comprising: a bracket affixed to said light body and defining a relatively straight passage between said bracket and said light body, said bracket including a spring finger proximate the passage; and a hanger ring having a relatively straight portion having at least first and second flat surfaces thereon disposed in the passage and engaging the spring finger of said bracket, wherein the spring finger of said bracket bears against the first flat surface of said hanger ring for biasing said hanger ring to a first position and bears against the second flat surface of said hanger ring for biasing said hanger ring to a second position. 7 . The portable light of claim 6 wherein said hanger ring includes a spring-loaded clip closing an opening in said hanger ring. 8 . The portable light of claim 6 wherein: said bracket is affixed to said light body by a fastener; or said bracket is affixed to said light body by a fastener that extends through said light body to engage said light source. 9 . The portable light of claim 6 wherein the first and second flat surfaces of said hanger ring are about 180° apart. 10 . The portable light of claim 6 wherein the first position of said hanger ring is adjacent said light body 11 . A portable light comprising: a light body defining at least a part of a relatively straight passage and having a cavity for receiving a source of electrical power; a light source supported by said light body and oriented for emitting light in a direction away from said light body; a switch for controlling said light source for selectively producing light, and a deployable hanger affixed in the passage of said light body for hanging said light body from an object, said deployable hanger comprising: a spring finger proximate the relatively straight passage; and a hanger ring having a relatively straight portion having at least first and second flat surfaces disposed in the relatively straight passage and engaging the spring finger, wherein the spring finger bears against the first flat surface of said hanger ring for biasing said hanger ring to a first position and bears against the second flat surface of said hanger ring for biasing said hanger ring to a second position. 12 . The portable light of claim 11 wherein said hanger ring includes a spring-loaded clip closing an opening in said hanger ring. 13 . The portable light of claim 11 further comprising: a bracket defining said spring finger, wherein: said bracket is affixed to said light body by a fastener; or said bracket is affixed to said light body by a fastener that extends through said light body to engage said light source. 14 . The portable light of claim 11 wherein the first and second flat surfaces of said hanger ring are about 180° apart. 15 . The portable light of claim 11 wherein the first position of said hanger ring is adjacent said light body
