What is claimed is: 1 . A method of altering target DNA in a cell comprising introducing into a cell a TALEN lacking repeat sequences 100 bp or longer wherein the TALEN cleaves the target DNA and the cell undergoes nonhomologous end joining to produce altered DNA in the cell. 2 - 5 .
