A new polyurethane (PU) adhesive composition having unique properties in automotive related applications such as composite bonding.

1 . An heat curable adhesive composition comprising a) a poly-phenol compound; b) an encapsulated dimeric isocyanate; c) a catalyst; and d) an amine compound. 2 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the poly-phenol compound is one selected from Bisphenol A, M, K or derivates thereof. 3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the poly-phenol compound is o,o′-diallyl-bisphenol A. 4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises 0.1 to 80 wt %, based on the total weight of the composition, of the poly-phenol compound. 5 . The composition of claim 1 further comprising a higher functional aliphatic polyol. 6 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the encapsulated dimeric isocyanate is dimeric toluene diisocyanate or dimeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate or a mixture thereof. 7 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the composition comprises 1 to 80 wt %, based on the total weight of the composition, of the encapsulated dimeric isocyanate. 8 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the catalyst comprises Sn-, Zr-, Ti-, Bi-metallo-organic compound or mixture thereof. 9 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the catalyst comprises Bi-neodecanoate. 10 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the catalyst is a Sn-, Zr-, Ti- or Bi-metallo-organic compound in combination with chelating ligands. 11 . An adhesive composition comprising a poly-phenol compound, an encapsulated dimeric isocyanate, an amine and a catalyst; wherein the composition has an elastic modulus of above 50 MPa; and wherein the poly-phenol compound is o,o′-diallyl-bisphenol A.
