Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A wireless device is enabled to receive a financial account card that is inserted into a card slot of the wireless device. The wireless device reads card data from the financial account card when it is inserted into the slot and programs an RFID (radio frequency identification) tag or a memory included in the wireless device. The wireless device may then be used to provide payment by transmitting the card data via radio frequency to a nearby RFID reader using the RFID tag. The financial account card may also be ejected from the wireless device and swiped by a magnetic card reader.

1 .- 44 . (canceled) 45 . A device configured to authorize a purchase transaction wirelessly, the device comprising: a wireless transmitter; at least one processor; and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the at least one processor to: associate first account information with the device, the first account information being associated with a first financial account; display at least one image representing one or more financial accounts including the first financial account; identify a selection of the first financial account associated with the at least one displayed image; and enable the wireless transmitter to provide to a point-of-sale terminal the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data during the purchase transaction based on the selection. 46 . The device of claim 45 , wherein the point-of-sale terminal is connected to at least one of a magnetic stripe reader or a wireless receiver. 47 . The device of claim 45 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to: store, for each financial account included in the one or more financial accounts, a name identifying the respective financial account; and display at least one of the stored names. 48 . The device of claim 45 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to: receive authentication information to enable the device to use the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data during the purchase transaction, wherein the authentication information is a Personal Identification Number (PIN) or biometric information. 49 . The device of claim 48 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to: authenticate an individual associated with the first card data based on the authentication information; and enable, based on a successful authentication, wireless transmission of the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data to the point-of-sale terminal. 50 . The device of claim 45 , wherein the first card data or data associated with the first card data is encrypted. 51 . The device of claim 45 , wherein the device is a handheld device, cellular phone, or PDA. 52 . A method for authorizing a purchase transaction wirelessly, comprising: associating first account information for a first financial account with a device; associating second account data for a second financial account with the device; wirelessly receiving purchase transaction data reflecting a purchase transaction; identifying, by at least one processor, a selection of the first financial account to complete the purchase transaction associated with the received purchase transaction data; and enabling a wireless transmitter of the device to provide to a point-of-sale terminal the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data from the device during the purchase transaction. 53 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the point-of-sale terminal is connected to at least one of a magnetic stripe reader or a wireless receiver. 54 . The method of claim 52 , further comprising: storing, for each of the first financial account and the second financial account, a name or a graphic identifying the respective financial account; and displaying at least one of the stored names or graphics. 55 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the device includes a cellular phone, PDA, or handheld device. 56 . The method of claim 52 , further comprising: receiving authentication information to enable the device to use the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data during the purchase transaction, wherein the authentication information is a Personal Identification Number (PIN) or biometric information. 57 . The method of claim 52 , wherein the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data is encrypted. 58 . The method of claim 52 , further comprising: authenticating an individual associated with the first card data based on the authentication information; and enabling, based on a successful authentication, wireless transmission of the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data to the point-of-sale terminal. 59 . A method for performing a purchase transaction, comprising: associating first account information for a first financial account with a device; displaying at least one image representing one or more financial accounts including the first financial account; identifying a selection of the first financial account associated with the at least one displayed image; and enabling, via at least one processor, a wireless transmitter in the device to provide to a point-of-sale terminal the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data during the purchase transaction based on the selection. 60 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the point-of-sale terminal is connected to at least one of a magnetic stripe reader or a wireless receiver. 61 . The method of claim 59 , further comprising storing, for each financial account included in the one or more financial accounts, a name identifying the respective financial account; and displaying at least one of the stored names. 62 . The method of claim 59 , further comprising: receive authentication information to enable the device to use the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data during the purchase transaction, wherein the authentication information is a Personal Identification Number (PIN) or biometric information. 63 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data is encrypted. 64 . The method of claim 59 , further comprising: authenticating an individual associated with the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data based on the authentication information; and enabling, based on a successful authentication, wireless transmission of the first account information, first card data associated with the first financial account, or data associated with the first card data to the point-of-sale terminal. 65 . The method of claim 59 , wherein the device is a handheld device, cellular phone, or PDA. 66 . A wireless device for authorizing a purchase transaction wirelessly, comprising: a wireless transmitter; at least one processor; and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the at least one processor to: associate first account data for a first financial account with the wireless device; associate second account data for a second financial account with the wireless device; receive purchase transaction data reflecting a purchase transaction; identify a selection of the first financial account to complete the pur
