Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Disclosed are systems and methods for improving interactions with and between computers in a content system supported by or configured with personal computing devices, servers and/or platforms. The systems interact to identify and retrieve data across platforms, which data can be used to improve the quality of data used in processing interactions between or among processors in such systems. The disclosed systems and methods determine a breaking news story and track breaking developments in such story. The present disclosure can construct a breaking news storyline from the developments in the detected breaking news story, whereby a user can view the storyline as individual breaking news messages or as a complete timeline of events displayed on a provided page.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method comprising: identifying, via the computing device over a network, a breaking news story being communicated to a user, said breaking news story comprising content associated with an event and information identifying users interested in said content; parsing, via the computing device, the breaking news story to identify said content, said parsing comprising analyzing said content to determine a category associated with said content; analyzing, via the computing device, media messages being communicated over the network to identify a development story, said development story comprising communicated content from said media messages that is related to the determined category; automatically compiling, via the computing device, information for a storyline based on the breaking news story and the development story; and communicating, via the computing device, a storyline message to the interested users, said story message comprising at least a portion of said storyline information. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said analysis further comprises: parsing the media messages to identify a set of messages related to the determined category, said parsing comprising extracting content from the messages and determining whether the extracted content matches the determined category in accordance with a match threshold; ranking each message determined to satisfy the match threshold, wherein a top ranked message is determined to be most relevant to the breaking news story; and selecting the top ranked message as the development story. 3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said determination of the extracted content is based on natural language processing (NLP) of the extracted content, wherein said NLP comprises identifying and removing stop words within the extracted content, and determining relationships between remaining content and the determined category. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said automatically compiled storyline information comprises data associated with the breaking news story and the development story, wherein said compiling comprises: storing said storyline information in a database; and generating said storyline message based on said stored storyline information. 5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media messages are communicated over the network during a predetermined time period, wherein the start of the time period is associated with the breaking news story. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said storyline comprises a displayable page detailing a timeline from the breaking news story to the development story. 7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said communication of said storyline message comprises said storyline, wherein said communication causes display of said timeline. 8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said communication of said storyline message comprises a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) associated with the storyline, wherein said communication enables a receiving interested user access to the displayable timeline via the URL. 9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said storyline message is a push message comprising only the information related to the development story. 10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said breaking news story comprises information related to a topic of said breaking news content, wherein said category is determined based on said topic. 11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining a set of users to be interested in said determined category, said interest determination based on user data of users on a social media platform, wherein said set of users comprises said interested users. 12 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: communicating said detected category to an ad platform, over the network, to obtain an advertisement associated with said detected category; and causing communication, over the network, of said identified advertisement in association with the storyline message. 13 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium tangibly encoded with computer-executable instructions, that when executed by a processor associated with a computing device, performs a method comprising: identifying, over a network, a breaking news story being communicated to a user, said breaking news story comprising content associated with an event and information identifying users interested in said content; parsing the breaking news story to identify said content, said parsing comprising analyzing said content to determine a category associated with said content; analyzing media messages being communicated over the network to identify a development story, said development story comprising communicated content from said media messages that is related to the determined category; automatically compiling information for a storyline based on the breaking news story and the development story; and communicating a storyline message to the interested users, said story message comprising at least a portion of said storyline information. 14 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein said analysis further comprises: parsing the media messages to identify a set of messages related to the determined category, said parsing comprising extracting content from the messages and determining whether the extracted content matches the determined category in accordance with a match threshold; ranking each message determined to satisfy the match threshold, wherein a top ranked message is determined to be most relevant to the breaking news story; and selecting the top ranked message as the development story. 15 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein said determination of the extracted content is based on natural language processing (NLP) of the extracted content, wherein said NLP comprises identifying and removing stop words within the extracted content, and determining relationships between remaining content and the determined category. 16 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein said automatically compiled storyline information comprises data associated with the breaking news story and the development story, wherein said compiling comprises: storing said storyline information in a database; and generating said storyline message based on said stored storyline information. 17 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the media messages are communicated over the network during a predetermined time period, wherein the start of the time period is associated with the breaking news story. 18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein said storyline comprises a displayable page detailing a timeline from the breaking news story to the development story. 19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , further comprising: determining a set of users to be interested in said determined category, said interest determination based on user data of users on a social media platform, wherein said set of users comprises said interested users. 20 . A system comprising: a processor; a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for tangibly storing thereon program logic for execution by the processor, the program logic comprising: identification logic executed by the processor for identifying, over a network, a breaking news story being communicated to a user, said breaking news story comprising content associated
