Composite tube assemblies comprising a composite tube comprising a distal end having a first conical section and a second conical section, wherein a distal end of the first conical section is in contact with a proximal end of the second conical section having the same outer diameter as the distal end of the first conical section, wherein a proximal end of the first conical section and a distal end of the second conical section have a smaller outer diameter than the distal end of the first conical section, a locking ring disposed around the first conical section, an end fitting disposed around the second conical section, wherein the end fitting is coupled to the locking ring, and a retaining ring circumferentially disposed around the locking ring are disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method of manufacture, comprising: forming a composite tube including a distal end comprising a first conical section and a second conical section; disposing an end fitting around the second conical section of the composite tube and internal to the composite tube; disposing a locking ring around the first conical section of the composite tube; and coupling the locking ring to the end fitting. 2 . The method of claim 1 , further including disposing a retaining ring around the locking ring. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the forming the composite tube further includes co-molding a metallic insert with the composite tube. 4 . The method of claim 1 , further including bonding a metallic insert to the composite tube. 5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a distal end of the first conical section is in contact with a proximal end of the second conical section having the same outer diameter as the distal end of the first conical section. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the locking ring is coupled to the end fitting with retention bolts. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the locking ring comprises a plurality of pieces. 8 . A method of manufacture, comprising: disposing a retaining ring around a composite tube, wherein a distal end of the composite tube comprises a first conical section and a second conical section, wherein a distal end of the first conical section is in contact with a proximal end of the second conical section having the same outer diameter as the distal end of the first conical section, wherein a proximal end of the first conical section and a distal end of the second conical section have a smaller outer diameter than the distal end of the first conical section; disposing an end fitting around the second conical section; disposing a locking ring around the first conical section of the composite tube so the retaining ring circumferentially surrounds the locking ring disposed around the first conical section; and coupling the locking ring to the end fitting. 9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the locking ring is coupled to the end fitting with retention bolts. 10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the composite tube comprises a metallic insert. 11 . The method of claim 10 , further including co-molding the metallic insert with the composite tube. 12 . The method of claim 10 , further including bonding the metallic insert to the composite tube. 13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the locking ring comprises a plurality of pieces. 14 . The method of claim 8 , further including treating a surface of the first conical section and the second conical section with a nanocoating.
