Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An elongate medical device shaft may comprise an elongate body and an annular electrode disposed on the elongate body. The annular electrode may define a longitudinal axis and have an outer diameter. The outer diameter may be greater at an axial center of the electrode than at an axial end of the electrode. Additionally or alternatively, the elongate body may comprise three longitudinal sections having three wall thicknesses. The middle wall thickness may be less than the proximal and distal wall thicknesses and the distal wall thickness may be less than the proximal wall thickness. Additionally or alternatively, the shaft may comprise an inner cylindrical structure and an outer tube. The outer tube may comprise a first radial layer and a second radial layer that is radially-outward of the first radial layer, the first radial layer, second radial layer, and inner structure having different stiffnesses.

The elongate medical device assembly of claim 1 , wherein said outer diameter of said annular electrode is greater at said axial center than at either axial end of said electrode. 3 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 1 , wherein said annular electrode defines a thickness between said outer diameter and said inner diameter, wherein said thickness is about 25% to about 75% less at said axial end than at said axial center. 4 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 1 , wherein said axial end of said electrode comprises a chamfer. 5 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 1 , wherein said elongate body has an outer diameter, wherein said axial end of said electrode is radially within said outer diameter of said elongate body. 6 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 5 , wherein a portion of said elongate body extends over a portion of said electrode. 7 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 1 , wherein said outer diameter of said annular electrode has a continuous curvature. 8 . An elongate medical device assembly comprising: an elongate body defining a longitudinal axis, said elongate body comprising: a first longitudinal section defining a first wall thickness; a second longitudinal section defining a second wall thickness, said second longitudinal section being distal of said first longitudinal section; and a third longitudinal section defining a third wall thickness, said third longitudinal section being distal of said second longitudinal section; wherein said second wall thickness is less than said first wall thickness and less than said third wall thickness and said first wall thickness is greater than said third wall thickness; further wherein said first, second, and third longitudinal sections define a common lumen, said lumen having a consistent diameter in said first, second, and third longitudinal sections. 9 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 8 , further comprising a first taper between said first wall thickness and said second wall thickness and a second taper between said second wall thickness and said third wall thickness. 10 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 8 , wherein said first longitudinal section has a first outer diameter, said second longitudinal section has a second outer diameter, and said third longitudinal section has a third outer diameter, wherein said second outer diameter is smaller than said first outer diameter and smaller than said third outer diameter. 11 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 8 , further comprising an annular electrode disposed on said elongate body, the annular electrode having an outer diameter, wherein said outer diameter is greater at an axial center of said electrode than at an axial end of said electrode. 12 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 11 , wherein said annular electrode is distal of said first and second longitudinal sections. 13 . An elongate medical device assembly comprising: an elongate shaft body comprising: an inner cylindrical structure defining a longitudinal lumen and defining a longitudinal axis; and an outer tube, disposed radially-outward of said inner layer, comprising a first radial layer and a second radial layer that is radially-outward of said first radial layer, the first radial layer having a different stiffness than said second radial layer. 14 . The elongate medical device assembly of claim 13 , wherein said second radial layer has a lower stiffness than said first radial layer. 15 .
