1 . A method comprising: determining an operating mode of a security system; determining, by the security system, whether a mobile device is located within a predetermined range of the security system; and receiving, by the security system, sensor data collected by the mobile device according to the determined operating mode of the security system and the determined location of the mobile device. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sensor data collected by the mobile device is received by the security system when the operating mode of the security system is determined to be at least one of the group consisting of: an away mode, a stay mode, and a vacation mode. 3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: transmitting a notification from the security system to the mobile device when the operating mode of the security system is changing to at least one of the group consisting of: an away mode, a stay mode, a transition mode, and a vacation mode. 4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the notification is transmitted when the mobile device is determined to be within the predetermined range of the security system. 5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the notification is transmitted when the security system receives at least one from the group consisting of: an access code, facial recognition data, fingerprint recognition data, and voice recognition data. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sensor data collected by the mobile device is received by the security system when the mobile device is determined to be within the predetermined range of the security system. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined range is selected from the group consisting of: inside a building, within a predetermined perimeter surrounding a building, and within a predetermined geofence area. 8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving, by the security system, identifying information from the mobile device to the security system via a communications link; and registering the mobile device with the security system according to the received identifying information. 9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: activating an alarm of the security system when the security system determines that the mobile device has moved according to the transmitted sensor data and according to the determined operating mode. 10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sensor data collected by the mobile device is received by the one or more sensors of the security system. 11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the security system verifies the data collected by one or more sensors of the security system according to the sensor data received from the mobile device. 12 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining a security event by the security system according to at least one from the group consisting of: the sensor data collected by the mobile device, and data collected by one or more sensors of the security system. 13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein in the mobile device operates in a different mode than the security system when the mobile device is located outside of the predetermined range of the security system. 14 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: transmitting a notification communication to at least one of the group consisting of: an emergency contact, emergency services, law enforcement, and a fire department. 15 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving, by the security system an indication of sound detected by a microphone of the mobile device; and determining the occurrence of a security event by the security system according to the detected indication of sound. 16 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving, by the security system, data of detected light from the mobile device. 17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the security system performs at least one from the group consisting of: determining a security event by the security system according to the transmitted data, and adjusting one or more lights communicatively coupled to the security system according to the transmitted data. 18 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: calibrating one or more sensors of the mobile device so as to determine a signature of one or more security events; and receiving, by the security system, a notification from the mobile device when the one or more sensors of the mobile device determines the signature of the one or more security events. 19 . A security system comprising: a processor to determine an operating mode of the security system and to determine whether a mobile device is located within a predetermined range of the security system; and a communications interface to receive sensor data collected by the mobile device according to the operating mode of the security system and the determined location of the mobile device. 20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the sensor data is received when the operating mode is determined by the processor to be at least one of the group consisting of: an away mode, a stay mode, and a vacation mode. 21 . The system of claim 19 , wherein a notification is transmitted from the security system to the mobile device when the operating mode of the security system is changing to at least one of the group consisting of: an away mode, a stay mode, a transition mode, and a vacation mode. 22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the notification is transmitted when the mobile device is determined to be within the predetermined range of the security system. 23 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the notification is transmitted when the security system receives at least one from the group consisting of: a password, a PIN, facial recognition data, fingerprint recognition data, and voice recognition data. 24 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the sensor data is received when the mobile device is determined to be within the predetermined range of the security system. 25 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the predetermined range is selected from the group consisting of: inside a building, within a predetermined perimeter surrounding a building, and within a predetermined geofence area. 26 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the security system receives identifying information from the mobile device, and registers the mobile device with the security system according to the received identifying information. 27 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the security system further comprises: an alarm that is activated by the processor when the processor determines that the mobile device has moved according to the received sensor data and according to the determined operating mode. 28 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the sensor data collected by the mobile device is received by the one or more sensors of the security system. 29 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the security system further comprises one or more sensors, and wherein the processor verifies the data collected by the one or more sensors according to the received sensor data from the mobile device. 30 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the processor determines a security event according to at least one from the group consisting of: the sensor data received from the mobile device, and data collected by one or more sensors of the security system.
