An approach is provided for analyzing social relation in an aspect of polarity. A method comprises collecting data associated with interactions between a first user and a second user in a social network; and estimating a polarity of a social relation between the first user and the second user based on the collected data, to indicate whether the social relation between the first user and the second user is positive, negative, or neutral.

1 . A method, comprising: collecting data associated with interactions between a first user and a second user in a social network; and estimating a polarity of a social relation between the first user and the second user based on the collected data, to indicate whether the social relation between the first user and the second user is positive, negative, or neutral. 2 . A method of claim 1 , wherein estimating the polarity of the social relation further comprises: identifying a polarity of at least one of texts and operations involved the interactions; and estimating the polarity of the social relation based on the identified polarity. 3 . A method of claim 2 , further comprises: extracting at least one sentiment word from the texts involved in the interactions; identifying a polarity of each of the at least one sentiment word; and synthesizing the identified polarity of sentiment word. 4 . A method of claim 3 , further comprises: extracting at least one operation involved in the interactions; identifying a polarity of each of the at least one operation; and synthesizing the identified polarity of operation. 5 . A method of claim 4 , wherein the polarity of the social relation is estimated by combining the synthesized polarity of sentiment word and the synthesized polarity of operation. 6 . A method of claim 1 , wherein the polarity of the social relation is estimated to further indicate the strength of the polarity of the social relation. 7 . A method of claim 1 , further comprises: managing the social relation between the first user and the second user based on the estimated polarity of the social relation. 8 . An apparatus comprising: at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following: collect data associated with interactions between a first user and a second user in a social network; and estimate a polarity of a social relation between the first user and the second user based on the collected data, to indicate whether the social relation between the first user and the second user is positive, negative, or neutral. 9 . An apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the estimation of the polarity of the social relation comprises identifying a polarity of at least one of texts and operations involved the interactions; and estimating the polarity of the social relation based on the identified polarity. 10 . An apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: extract at least one sentiment word from the texts involved in the interactions; identify a polarity of each of the at least one sentiment word; and synthesize the identified polarity of sentiment word. 11 . An apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: extracting at least one operation involved in the interactions; identifying a polarity of each of the at least one operation; and synthesizing the identified polarity of operation. 12 . An apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the polarity of the social relation is estimated by combining the synthesized polarity of sentiment word and the synthesized polarity of operation. 13 . An apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the polarity of the social relation is estimated to further indicate the strength of the polarity of the social relation. 14 . An apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to: manage the social relation between the first user and the second user based on the estimated polarity of the social relation. 15 . A computer-readable storage medium carrying one or more sequences of one or more instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causing an apparatus to perform a method of claim 1 . 16 .
