Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

This disclosure describes systems, methods, and apparatus for a barrel support for a for a firearm stock. In one example, the barrel support has an elongate frame with a longitudinal axis extending between a fore portion and an aft portion, a first concave barrel recess shaped to support a first barrel, the first concave barrel recess positioned on a first side of the elongate frame. The exemplary barrel support also has a second concave barrel recess shaped to support a second barrel, the second concave barrel recess positioned on a second side of the elongate frame. In this example the first barrel is a tapered barrel, and the second barrel is a straight barrel.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1 . A barrel support for a firearm stock, the barrel support comprising: an elongate frame with a longitudinal axis extending between a fore portion and an aft portion; a first concave barrel recess shaped to support a first barrel, the first concave barrel recess positioned on a first side of the elongate frame; and a second concave barrel recess shaped to support a second barrel, the second concave barrel recess positioned on a second side of the elongate frame; wherein the first barrel is a tapered barrel; and the second barrel is a straight barrel. 2 . The barrel support of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first or second concave barrel recesses has a longitudinal dimension that is less than a longitudinal dimension of the barrel support. 3 . The barrel support of claim 1 , further comprising: a barrel tensioning mechanism having a first support frame and an adjustment mechanism; wherein the adjustment mechanism is configured to be positioned between the first support frame and the selectable barrel support; and wherein the first support frame has a first position and a second position and is configured to move between the first and second positions, wherein in the first position the first support frame is substantially flush with or recessed in the first concave barrel recess, and wherein in the second position the first support frame protrudes into the first concave barrel recess. 4 . The barrel support of claim 3 , wherein: the barrel tensioning mechanism further comprises a second support frame; wherein the second support frame has a first position and a second position and is configured to move between and including the first and second positions, wherein in the first position the second support frame is substantially flush with or recessed in the second concave barrel recess, and wherein in the second position the second support frame protrudes into the second concave barrel recess. 5 . The barrel support of claim 1 , wherein: the first concave barrel recess has a first radius proximal the fore portion and a second radius proximal the aft portion, the second radius different from the first radius; and the second concave barrel recess has a third radius proximal the fore portion and a fourth radius proximal the aft portion, the fourth radius equal to the third radius. 6 . The barrel support of claim 1 , further comprising: a third concave barrel recess shaped to support a third barrel, the third concave barrel recess positioned on a third side of the elongate frame. 7 . The barrel support of claim 6 , further comprising: a fourth concave barrel recess shaped to support a fourth barrel, the fourth concave barrel recess positioned on a fourth side of the elongate frame. 8 . The barrel support of claim 1 , wherein: the aft portion of the elongate frame is shaped to engage a firearm receiver. 9 . The barrel support of claim 8 , wherein: the elongate frame is shaped to nest in a firearm forend. 10 . The barrel support of claim 9 , wherein: the elongate frame comprises at least one fastening means for coupling the forend and the elongate frame. 11 . A firearm, comprising: a receiver; a firearm stock; and a barrel support; wherein the barrel support comprises (a) an elongate frame with a longitudinal axis extending between a fore portion and an aft portion; (b) a first concave barrel recess shaped to support a first barrel, the first concave barrel recess positioned on a first side of the elongate frame; and (c) a second concave barrel recess shaped to support a second barrel, the second concave barrel recess positioned on a second side of the elongate frame; and wherein the first barrel is a tapered barrel; and the second barrel is a straight barrel. 12 . The firearm of claim 11 , wherein at least one of the first or second concave barrel recesses has a longitudinal dimension that is less than a longitudinal dimension of the barrel support. 13 . The firearm of claim 11 , further comprising: a barrel tensioning mechanism having a first support frame and an adjustment mechanism; wherein the adjustment mechanism is configured to be positioned between the first support frame and the selectable barrel support; and wherein the first support frame has a first position and a second position and is configured to move between the first and second positions, wherein in the first position the first support frame is substantially flush with or recessed in the first concave barrel recess, and wherein in the second position the first support frame protrudes into the first concave barrel recess. 14 . The firearm of claim 13 , wherein: the barrel tensioning mechanism further comprises a second support frame; wherein the second support frame has a first position and a second position and is configured to move between and including the first and second positions, wherein in the first position the second support frame is substantially flush with or recessed in the second concave barrel recess, and wherein in the second position the second support frame protrudes into the second concave barrel recess. 15 . The firearm of claim 11 , wherein: the first concave barrel recess has a first radius proximal the fore portion and a second radius proximal the aft portion, the second radius different from the first radius; and the second concave barrel recess has a third radius proximal the fore portion and a fourth radius proximal the aft portion, the fourth radius equal to the third radius. 16 . The firearm of claim 11 , further comprising: a third concave barrel recess shaped to support a third barrel, the third concave barrel recess positioned on a third side of the elongate frame. 17 . The firearm of claim 16 , further comprising: a fourth concave barrel recess shaped to support a fourth barrel, the fourth concave barrel recess positioned on a fourth side of the elongate frame. 18 . The firearm of claim 11 , wherein: the aft portion of the elongate frame is shaped to engage a firearm receiver. 19 . The firearm of claim 18 , wherein: the elongate frame is shaped to nest in a firearm forend. 20 . The firearm of claim 19 , wherein: the elongate frame comprises at least one fastening means for coupling the forend and the elongate frame.
