Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An athletic parameter measurement device worn by an athlete during an athletic activity session includes a housing which attaches to the athlete, a display, a processor associated with the display, and an athletic parameter measurement sensor. During the athletic activity, the device detects, using the sensor, a vertical jump height of the athlete, and displays, during the performance of the athletic activity session, a representation of the vertical jump height on the display.

We claim: 1 . An athletic parameter measurement device configured to be worn by an athlete comprising: a housing having an attachment mechanism configured to be attached to the athlete during an athletic activity session; a display; a processor; and at least one athletic parameter measurement sensor, wherein the athletic parameter measurement device is configured to: athletic data of the athlete during the athletic activity session while the housing is worn by the athlete; receive, by the processor, video data of the athlete during the athletic activity session, wherein recording of the video data is triggered by detection of an electronic tag in an item of apparel worn by the athlete; calculate, by the processor, at least one metric of the athlete using the detected athletic data and the received video data; and display, by the processor on the display, during performance of the athletic activity session, a representation of the at least one metric. 2 . The athletic parameter measurement device of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the at least one metric is displayed in real time. 3 . The athletic parameter measurement device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one athletic parameter measurement sensor includes an accelerometer. 4 . The athletic parameter measurement device of claim 3 , wherein the accelerometer is a piezoelectric accelerometer. 5 . The athletic parameter measurement device of claim 1 , wherein the athletic parameter device is further configured to: associate an identification of the athlete with the athletic parameter measurement device; and transmit the at least one metric and the identification to a computing device remote from the athletic parameter measurement device. 6 . The athletic parameter measurement device of claim 5 , wherein the athletic parameter measurement device is further configured to transmit the at least one metric and the identification to the computing device via 2400 and 2483.5 MHz frequency signals. 7 . The athletic parameter measurement device of claim 5 , wherein the athletic parameter measurement device is further configured to transmit the at least one metric and the identification to the computing device in real-time. 8 . An athletic parameter measurement system comprising: a computing device in electronic communication with a first display and a first processor; and a plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices remote from the computing device and in communication with the computing device, wherein each of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices is uniquely associated with a corresponding athlete, and wherein each of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices includes: a housing having an attachment mechanism configured to be attached to the corresponding athlete during an athletic activity session; a second display; a second processor; and at least one athletic parameter measurement sensor, wherein each of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices is configured to: detect, by the at least one athletic parameter measurement sensor, athletic data of the corresponding athlete during the athletic activity session while the housing is worn by the corresponding athlete, receive, by the second processor, video data of the corresponding athlete during the athletic activity session, wherein recording of the video data is triggered by detection of an electronic tag in an item of apparel worn by the corresponding athlete; calculate, by the second processor, at least one metric of the athlete using the detected athletic data and the received video data; and display, by the second processor on the second display, a first representation of the at least one metric; transmit, by the second processor to the computing device, the at least one metric; wherein the computer device is configured to: analyze the at least one metric transmitted from the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices; and transmit the analysis of the at least one metric from the plurality of athletic parameter devices to the second processors of the plurality of athletic parameter devices. 9 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 8 , wherein the first representation of the at least one metric is displayed in real-time. 10 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 8 , wherein the at least one athletic parameter measurement sensor includes an accelerometer. 11 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 10 , wherein the accelerometer is a piezoelectric accelerometer. 12 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 8 , wherein each of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices is further configured to: associate an identification of the corresponding athlete with the athletic parameter measurement device; and transmit the at least one metric and the identification to the computing device. 13 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 12 , wherein each of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices is further configured to transmit the at least one metric and the identification to the computing device via 2400 and 2483.5 MHz frequency signals. 14 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 12 , wherein each of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices is further configured to transmit the at least one metric and the identification to the computing device in real-time. 15 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 12 , wherein the first processor is configured to display, on the first display, a second representation of the at least one metric received from a first athletic parameter measurement device of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices. 16 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 15 , wherein the first processor is further configured to display, on the first display, an image of the corresponding athlete associated with the first athletic parameter measurement device. 17 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 16 , wherein the image of the corresponding athlete and the second representation of the at least one metric are displayed in real time. 18 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 16 , wherein the image of the corresponding athlete is associated in the first display with the second representation of the at least one metric by overlaying the second representation of the at least one metric on the image of the corresponding athlete. 19 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 12 , wherein the first processor is configured to display, on the first display, a second representation of the at least one metric received from each of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices. 20 . The athletic parameter measurement system of claim 19 , wherein the first processor is further configured to display, on the first display, images of the corresponding athletes associated with each of the plurality of athletic parameter measurement devices.
