Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A content management system for collecting files from one or more submitters in a collection folder. A collector, who generates the collection folder, can invite one or more submitters to submit one or more files to the collection folder. The one or more submitters have limited rights to the collection folder. The limited rights can include uploading rights and prohibiting a submitter from viewing files that other submitters associated with the collection folder submitted. Thus, the collection folder is able to store files from the one or more submitters, but prevent them from viewing other's submissions. Once collected, the collector can publish the files thereby allowing the submitters access to the published files.

What is claimed is: 1 . A computer implemented method comprising: receiving from a collector, by a content management system, a request to generate a link for use in collecting one or more files from one or more submitters; at least partially in response to receiving the request, providing, by the content management system, one or more prompts requesting information from the collector, receiving, by the content management system, information responding to the prompts; generating, by the content management system, a link to a designated collection folder using at least some of the received information; distributing, by the content management system, the generated link to one or more submitters based on at least some of the received information, receiving, by the content management system, at least one file from a submitter who accesses the distributed link; and storing, by the content management system, the at least one received file in the designated collection folder in an account associated with the collector; receiving, by the content management system, a publishing command from the collector; and changing the submitter rights, in response to receiving the publishing command, from limited rights to the designated collection folder which comprises uploading rights for uploading one or more files to the designated collection folder and prohibiting the submitter from viewing files uploaded by other submitters associated with the designated collection folder to full access rights in which a submitter can view the files submitted by other submitters. 2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the storing further comprises: generating, by the content management system, a unique filename for each received file, with the filename including a name for the file request and information identifying the user; and storing, by the content management system, the file and associating the unique filename with the file. 3 . The method of claim 1 further comprising sending, by the content management system, an email message to each submitter notifying the submitter that the contents of the designated folder are fully accessible. 4 . The method of claim 1 further comprising, by the content management system, making the generated link available to Internet search engines. 5 . The method of claim 4 further comprising receiving, by the content management system from the collector, a modification to the generated link making the modified generated link available to Internet search engines. 6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the publishing command requires a submitter to log into a user account for the content management system in order to access the designated folder. 7 . The method of claim 1 wherein the publishing command makes the designated folder available via a company wiki. 8 . The method of claim 1 further comprising: prompting, by the content management system, to select a template layout for organizing the contents of the designated folder; and organizing, by the content management system, the contents in accordance with the selected template layout. 9 . The method of claim 1 wherein the submitter does not have an account with the content management system. 10 . The method of claim 1 wherein the content management system is a synchronized content management system. 11 . A system comprising: a processor; and a computer-readable storage medium having processor-executable instructions store therein for causing a processor to: receiving from a collector a request to generate a link for use in collecting one or more files from one or more submitters; at least partially in response to receiving the request, providing one or more prompts requesting information from the collector, receiving information responding to the prompts; generating a link to a designated collection folder using at least some of the received information; distributing the generated link to one or more submitters based on at least some of the received information, receiving at least one file from a submitter who accesses the distributed link; and storing the at least one received file in the designated collection folder in an account associated with the collector; receiving a publishing command from the collector; and changing the submitter rights, in response to receiving the publishing command, from limited rights to the designated collection folder which comprises uploading rights for uploading one or more files to the designated collection folder and prohibiting the submitter from viewing files uploaded by other submitters associated with the designated collection folder to full access rights in which a submitter can view the files submitted by other submitters. 12 . The system of claim 11 wherein the storing further comprises: generating a unique filename for each received file, with the filename including a name for the file request and information identifying the user; and storing the file and associating the unique filename with the file. 13 . The system of claim 11 further comprising sending an email message to each submitter notifying the submitter that the contents of the designated folder are fully accessible. 14 . The system of claim 11 further comprising making the generated link available to Internet search engines. 15 . The system of claim 14 further comprising receiving from the collector, a modification to the generated link making the modified generated link available to Internet search engines. 16 . The system of claim 11 wherein the publishing command requires a submitter to log into a user account for the content management system in order to access the designated folder. 17 . The system of claim 11 wherein the publishing command makes the designated folder available via a company wiki. 18 . The system of claim 11 further comprising: prompting to select a template layout for organizing the contents of the designated folder; and organizing the contents in accordance with the selected template layout. 19 . The system of claim 11 wherein the submitter does not have an account with the content management system. 20 . The system of claim 11 wherein the content management system is a synchronized content management system.
