Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) stops discontinuous reception (DRX) timers that are running and that are related to uplink and/or downlink transmissions during a DRX time period. The WTRU stops the DRX timers in response to receiving a medium access control (MAC) control element signal from an eNode-B.

1 - 14 . (canceled) 15 . A method for a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) to perform discontinuous reception (DRX), the method comprising: the WTRU operating a DRX on duration timer, wherein the DRX on duration timer specifies a number of consecutive physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) subframes at a beginning of a DRX cycle; the WTRU operating a DRX inactivity timer, wherein the DRX inactivity timer is indicative of a number of consecutive transmission time intervals (TTIs) during which the WTRU monitors a PDCCH after successfully decoding a PDCCH transmission that indicates an initial uplink or downlink user data transmission for the WTRU; the WTRU receiving a first DRX medium access control (MAC) control element (CE); and upon receiving the first DRX MAC CE, stopping a DRX short cycle timer and using a long DRX cycle. 16 . The method of claim 15 , comprising: the WTRU receiving a second DRX MAC CE; the WTRU stopping the DRX on duration timer and the DRX inactivity timer based on the received second DRX MAC CE; upon receiving the second DRX MAC CE and stopping the DRX on duration timer and the DRX inactivity timer, the WTRU determining whether or not a short DRX cycle is configured, wherein: on condition that the WTRU determines that the short DRX cycle is configured, the WTRU starting a DRX short cycle timer and using the short DRX cycle, and on condition that the WTRU determines that the short DRX cycle is not configured, the WTRU using a long DRX cycle. 17 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising the WTRU receiving a first type of DRX MAC CE, wherein the first type of DRX MAC CE is associated with downlink transmissions. 18 . The method of claim 17 , comprising the WTRU stopping at least one running DRX timer related to downlink transmissions based on receiving the first type of DRX MAC CE. 19 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising the WTRU receiving a second type of DRX MAC CE, wherein the second type of DRX MAC CE is associated with uplink transmissions. 20 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising the WTRU stopping at least one running DRX timer related to uplink transmissions based on receiving the second type of DRX MAC CE. 21 . A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) comprising a processor configured to: operate a DRX on duration timer, wherein the DRX on duration timer specifies a number of consecutive physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) subframes at a beginning of a DRX cycle; operating a DRX inactivity timer, wherein the DRX inactivity timer is indicative of a number of consecutive transmission time intervals (TTIs) during which the WTRU monitors a PDCCH after successfully decoding a PDCCH transmission that indicates an initial uplink or downlink user data transmission for the WTRU; receive a first DRX medium access control (MAC) control element (CE); and upon receiving the first DRX MAC CE, stop a DRX short cycle timer and using a long DRX cycle. 22 . The WTRU of claim 21 , wherein the processor is configured to: receive a second DRX MAC CE; stop the DRX on duration timer and the DRX inactivity timer based on receiving the second DRX MAC CE; and upon the WTRU receiving the second DRX MAC CE and stopping the DRX on duration timer and the DRX inactivity timer, determine whether or not a short DRX cycle is configured, wherein: on condition that it is determined that the short DRX cycle is configured, the processor is further configured to start a DRX short cycle timer and use the short DRX cycle, and on condition that it is determined that the short DRX cycle is not configured, the processor is further configured to use a long DRX cycle. 23 . The WTRU of claim 22 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive a first type of DRX MAC CE, wherein the first type of DRX MAC CE is associated with downlink transmissions. 24 . The WTRU of claim 23 , wherein the processor is further configured to stop at least one running DRX timer related to downlink transmissions based on receiving the first type of DRX MAC CE. 25 . The WTRU of claim 22 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive a second type of DRX MAC CE, wherein the second type of DRX MAC CE is associated with uplink transmissions. 26 . The WTRU of claim 25 , wherein the processor is further configured to stop at least one running DRX timer related to uplink transmissions based on receiving the second type of DRX MAC CE.
