What is claimed is: 1 . A portable terminal, comprising: a display, the display comprising a main area and a curved area, the curved area comprising a curved portion extending from the main area, a sensor to detecting an state of the portable terminal; and a controller configured to operate the portable terminal in one of a first mode in which information is displayed on only the curved area and a second mode in which information is displayed on the main area and the curved area according to the state of the portable terminal detected by the sensor. 2 . The portable terminal as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the controller configured to, in response to detecting that the main area is placed in a downward direction, operate the portable terminal in the first mode and in response to detecting that the main area is placed in a upward direction, operate the portable terminal in the second mode. 3 . The portable terminal as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the controller configured to, in response to detecting that the main area is covered, operate the portable terminal in the first mode and, in response to detecting that the main area is not covered, operate the portable terminal in the second mode. 4 . The portable terminal as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the sensor comprising an illumination sensor for detecting whether the main display area of the electronic apparatus is covered and a motion sensor for detecting orientation of the electronic apparatus. 5 . The portable terminal as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first mode is silent alarm mode. 6 . A controlling method of a portable terminal comprising a display, the display comprising a main area and a curved area, the curved area comprising a curved portion extending from the main area, the method comprising: detecting an state of the portable terminal; and operating the portable terminal in one of a first mode in which information is displayed on only the curved area and a second mode in which information is displayed on the main area and the curved area according to the state of the portable terminal. 7 . The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the operating, in response to detecting that the main area is placed in a downward direction, operates the portable terminal in the first mode and in response to detecting that the main area is placed in a upward direction, operates the portable terminal in the second mode. 8 . The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the operating, in response to detecting that the main area is covered, operates the portable terminal in the first mode and, in response to detecting that the main area is not covered, operates the portable terminal in the second mode. 9 . The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the detecting detects the state of the portable terminal using a sensor, and wherein the sensor comprises an illumination sensor for detecting whether the main display area of the electronic apparatus is covered and a motion sensor for detecting orientation of the electronic apparatus. 10 . The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the first mode is silent alarm mode.
