Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A mixture of a cellulose derivative and a liquid diluent is prepared which comprises at least 5 weight percent of the cellulose derivative, based on the total weight of the cellulose derivative and the liquid diluent. The mixing operating causes air to be entrapped in the mixture. The time for at least partially removing entrapped air is reduced by providing a cellulose derivative having a specific surface area of less than 0.20 m2/g measured by BET method for preparing the mixture.

1 . A process for preparing a mixture of a cellulose derivative and a liquid diluent comprising at least 5 weight percent of the cellulose derivative, based on the total weight of the cellulose derivative and the liquid diluent, wherein a cellulose derivative is provided which has a specific surface area of less than 0.20 m 2 /g, measured by BET method, and the cellulose derivative having said specific surface area is mixed with the liquid diluent. 2 . The process of claim 1 , wherein a cellulose derivative having a specific surface area of from 0.04 to 0.16 m 2 /g is provided. 3 . The process of claim 1 , wherein the cellulose derivative has a viscosity of from 1.2 to 200 mPa·s, measured as a 2 weight-% aqueous solution at 20° C. according to ASTM D2363-79, reapproved 2006. 4 . The process of claim 1 for preparing a mixture comprising from 7 to 30 weight percent of the cellulose derivative, based on the total weight of the cellulose derivative and the liquid diluent. 5 . The process of claim 1 , wherein the cellulose derivative is mixed with an aqueous diluent. 6 . The process of claim 1 , wherein the cellulose derivative is a cellulose ether or cellulose ester. 7 . The process of claim 6 , wherein the cellulose ether is a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a methylcellulose or a hydroxyethyl cellulose. 8 . The process of claim 1 , wherein the mixture is prepared in the absence of a substantial amount of a defoaming agent. 9 . The process of claim 1 , wherein the mixture is allowed to stand at or below atmospheric pressure after it has been produced. 10 . The process of claim 9 wherein the mixture is allowed to stand at atmospheric pressure after it has been produced. 11 . A process for manufacturing capsules comprising the steps of preparing a mixture according to the process of claim 1 and contacting the mixture with dipping pins. 12 . A process for coating a dosage form comprising the steps of preparing a mixture according to the process of claim 1 and contacting the mixture with the dosage form. 13 . A method of decreasing the time for at least partially removing entrapped air from a mixture of a cellulose derivative and a liquid diluent in a process comprising the steps of i) mixing a cellulose derivative with a liquid diluent to provide a mixture comprising at least 5 weight percent of cellulose derivative, based on the total weight of the cellulose derivative and the liquid diluent, wherein the mixing operating causes air to be entrapped in the mixture, and ii) reducing the volume of air entrapped in the mixture by allowing the mixture to stand at or below atmospheric pressure, wherein the time for at least partially removing entrapped air is reduced by providing a cellulose derivative having a specific surface area of less than 0.20 m 2 /g measured by BET method for preparing the mixture. 14 . The method of claim 13 wherein a cellulose derivative is provided that has a specific surface area of from 0.04 to 0.16 m 2 /g. 15 . The method of claim 13 wherein the cellulose derivative is a cellulose ether or cellulose ester. 16 . The process of claim 2 , wherein a cellulose derivative is provided having a specific surface area of from 0.04 to 0.16 m 2 /g and having a viscosity of from 1.2 to 200 mPa·s, measured as a 2 weight-% aqueous solution at 20° C. according to ASTM D2363-79, reapproved 2006, the derivative being a hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a methylcellulose or a hydroxyethyl cellulose, for preparing a mixture comprising from 7 to 30 weight percent of the cellulose derivative, based on the total weight of the cellulose derivative and the liquid diluent, and the liquid diluent being an aqueous diluent.
