Alumina/NiO/ZnO and Alumina/ZnO are synthesized via a novel modified hydrothermal method and investigated for the desulfurization activities. Sulfur compounds such as thiophene, benzothiophene (BT) and dibenzothiophene (DBT) are tested for their removal from model diesel fuel. The prepared composite materials were examined by the means of N 2 -adsorption, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

1 - 10 . (canceled) 11 : A method for desulfurizing a hydrocarbon composition, comprising: contacting a metal-oxide/NiO/ZnO material with the hydrocarbon composition to absorb one or more sulfur compounds present in the hydrocarbon composition on the metal-oxide/NiO/ZnO material. 12 : The method of claim 11 wherein the hydrocarbon composition is a mixture of an aromatic-containing compound and an alkane. 13 : The method of claim 12 wherein the aromatic-containing compound is toluene and the alkane is hexane. 14 : The method of claim 11 wherein the sulfur compounds are selected from the group consisting of dibenzothiophene, benzothiophene, and thiophene. 15 . (canceled) 16 : The method of claim 11 wherein the method has an adsorption time of 50 minutes. 17 : The method of claim 11 wherein the one or more sulfur compounds are absorbed at an adsorption rate that follows a pseudo second-order reaction rate.
