Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A power tool assembly includes a latch movable between a first latch position whereat the latch supports a drop arm assembly in a first drop arm assembly position, and a second latch position whereat the latch does not support the drop arm assembly position at the first drop arm assembly position, and an arbor lock movable between a first lock position whereat the arbor lock prevents movement of the drop arm assembly toward the second drop arm assembly position when the drop arm assembly is in the first drop arm assembly position, and a second lock position whereat the arbor lock does not prevent movement of the drop arm assembly toward the second drop arm assembly position when the drop arm assembly is in the first drop arm assembly position.

1 . A power tool assembly comprising: a workpiece support surface; a drop arm assembly movable along a drop path between a first drop arm assembly position whereat a portion of a shaping device supported by the drop arm assembly extends above the workpiece support surface and a second drop arm assembly position whereat the portion of the shaping device does not extend above the workpiece support surface; a latch movable between a first latch position whereat the latch supports the drop arm assembly in the first drop arm assembly position, and a second latch position whereat the latch does not support the drop arm assembly position at the first drop arm assembly position; and an arbor lock movable between a first lock position whereat the arbor lock prevents movement of the drop arm assembly toward the second drop arm assembly position when the drop arm assembly is in the first drop arm assembly position, and a second lock position whereat the arbor lock does not prevent movement of the drop arm assembly toward the second drop arm assembly position when the drop arm assembly is in the first drop arm assembly position. 2 . The power tool assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a height adjust carriage, the height adjust carriage movably supporting the drop arm assembly, wherein: the arbor lock includes a locking ramp configured to be operably supported by the height adjust carriage when the arbor lock is in the first lock position. 3 . The power tool assembly of claim 2 , wherein the arbor lock is linearly movable between the first lock position and the second lock position. 4 . The power tool assembly of claim 3 , wherein: the arbor lock includes at least one guide slot; the drop arm assembly includes at least one guide positioned within the at least one guide slot; and the at least one guide slot and at least one guide are configured to guide the arbor lock as it moves linearly between the first lock position and the second lock position. 5 . The power tool assembly of claim 4 , wherein: the arbor lock includes an arbor slot including a first portion and a second portion, the second portion having a minimum diameter which is less than a minimum diameter of the first portion; the power tool assembly includes an arbor shaft rotatably supported by the drop arm assembly, the arbor shaft extending through the arbor slot; the arbor shaft includes a notch portion aligned with the arbor slot; a minimum diameter of the notch portion is less than the minimum diameter of the second portion; and a maximum diameter of the notch portion is greater than the minimum diameter of the second portion and less than the minimum diameter of the first portion. 6 . The power tool assembly of claim 5 , wherein: the height adjust assembly includes a pyrotechnic housing; the pyrotechnic housing includes a locking ramp aligned with the locking ramp of the arbor lock; and the arbor lock is configured such that the locking ramp of the arbor lock rests upon the locking ramp of the pyrotechnic housing when the arbor lock is in the first position and the drop arm assembly is in the first drop arm assembly position. 7 . The power tool assembly of claim 6 , further comprising: a biasing element configured to bias the arbor lock in a direction toward the second lock position. 8 . A method of positioning a shaping device on a power tool assembly including a drop arm assembly movable along a drop path between a first drop arm assembly position whereat a portion of the shaping device supported by the drop arm assembly extends above a workpiece support surface and a second drop arm assembly position whereat the portion of the shaping device does not extend above the workpiece support surface, the method comprising: moving an arbor lock to a first lock position whereat the arbor lock prevents movement of the drop arm assembly toward the second drop arm assembly position when the drop arm assembly is in the first drop arm assembly position, from a second lock position whereat the arbor lock does not prevent movement of the drop arm assembly toward the second drop arm assembly position when the drop arm assembly is in the first drop arm assembly position; loosening an arbor nut on an arbor shaft rotatably supported by the drop arm assembly while the arbor lock is in the first position; removing the arbor nut from the arbor shaft; positioning the shaping device on the arbor shaft; tightening the arbor nut on the arbor shaft after positioning the shaping device; moving the arbor lock from the first position to the second position after tightening the arbor nut; and supporting the drop arm assembly in the first drop arm assembly position with a latch positioned in a first latch position, the latch movable between the first latch position and and a second latch position whereat the latch does not support the drop arm assembly position at the first drop arm assembly position. 9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising: movably supporting the drop arm assembly with a height adjust carriage, wherein moving the arbor lock to the first lock position comprises: operably supporting a locking ramp of the arbor lock with the height adjust carriage. 10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein moving the arbor lock to the first lock position comprises: linearly moving the arbor lock between the second lock position and the first lock position. 11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein linearly moving the arbor lock comprises: guiding the arbor lock using at least one drop arm assembly guide positioned within at least one guide slot of the arbor lock. 12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the arbor lock includes an arbor slot including a first portion and a second portion, the second portion having a minimum diameter which is less than a minimum diameter of the first portion, and moving the arbor lock to the first lock position comprises: aligning a notched portion of the arbor shaft with the second portion of the arbor lock; and positioning the second portion of the arbor lock about the notched portion. 13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the height adjust assembly includes a pyrotechnic housing, and the pyrotechnic housing includes a locking ramp aligned with the locking ramp of the arbor lock and moving the arbor lock to the first lock position comprises: positioning the locking ramp of the arbor lock upon the locking ramp of the pyrotechnic housing. 14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein moving the arbor lock to the first lock position comprises: compressing a biasing element configured to bias the arbor lock in a direction toward the second lock position. 15 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising: removing a throat plate prior to moving the arbor lock to the first position.
