Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A web of multi-dose cleaning products and method of manufacturing the same is disclosed. The web includes a carrier sheet including first and second pluralities of depressions, a first plurality of pouches, and a second plurality of pouches. Each of the pouches is positioned in a respective depression in the carrier sheet. The first plurality of pouches contain a first cleaning composition, and the second plurality of pouches contain a second cleaning composition. A first end of the carrier sheet is folded over a second end of the carrier sheet so that each multi-dose cleaning product is defined by at least an overlapping pair of the first and second pouches and an overlapping pair of the first and second depressions.

What is claimed is: 1 . A web of multi-dose cleaning products comprising: a carrier sheet having a first end, a second end, a first plurality of depressions, and a second plurality of depressions; a first plurality of pouches disposed in the first plurality of depressions and containing a first cleaning composition; a second plurality of pouches disposed in the second plurality of depressions and containing a second cleaning composition; and the first end of the carrier sheet being folded over the second end of the carrier sheet so that each multi-dose cleaning product is defined by at least one pair of overlapping first and second pouches and at least one pair of overlapping first and second depressions. 2 . The web of claim 1 , the first and second ends of the carrier sheet being sealed together to inhibit the ingress of foreign material. 3 . The web of claim 2 , the first and second pluralities of pouches being made of a water-soluble material. 4 . The web of claim 3 , the carrier sheet being made of a water-resistant material. 5 . The web of claim 4 , comprising: each of the first plurality of pouches having a first holder filled with the first cleaning composition and a first lid covering an open end of the first holder; and each of the second plurality of pouches having a second holder filled with the second cleaning composition and a second lid covering an open end of the second holder. 6 . The web of claim 4 , the first and second holders being thermoformed to the carrier sheet. 7 . The web of claim 1 , at least one of the multi-dose cleaning products being defined by at least two pairs of overlapping first and second pouches and two pairs of overlapping first and second depressions. 8 . The web of claim 7 , comprising a plurality of weakened tear lines formed in the carrier sheet such that multi-dose cleaning products are separately detachable from the web. 9 . The web of claim 1 , the first cleaning composition being at least one of a dishwashing detergent, a laundry detergent, a water softener, or a rinse aid. 10 . A multi-dose cleaning product comprising: a folded carrier sheet defining a sealed interior volume; a first pouch within the sealed interior volume and containing a first cleaning composition; and a second pouch within the sealing interior volume and containing a second cleaning composition. 11 . The multi-dose cleaning product of claim 10 , the first pouch being formed by a first water-soluble holder filled with the first cleaning composition and a first water-soluble lid covering an open end of the first water-soluble holder. 12 . The multi-dose cleaning product of claim 11 , the second pouch being formed by a second water-soluble holder filled with a second cleaning composition and a second water-soluble lid covering an open end of the second water-soluble holder. 13 . The multi-dose cleaning product of claim 12 , the folded carrier sheet being made of a water-resistant material. 14 . The multi-dose cleaning product of claim 13 , the first and second water-soluble holders being thermoformed to the folded carrier sheet. 15 . The multi-dose cleaning product of claim 10 , the first cleaning composition being at least one of a dishwashing detergent, a laundry detergent, a water softener, or a rinse aid. 16 . A method of making a web of multi-dose cleaning products, the method comprising: positioning a first film face-to-face with a carrier sheet; feeding the first film and the carrier sheet on to a mold of a forming machine with the carrier sheet being positioned between the mold and the first film; forming the first film and the carrier sheet over the mold at the same time to define a first plurality of internal holders in the first film, a second plurality of internal holders in the first film, a first plurality of external holders in the carrier sheet corresponding with the first plurality of internal holders, and a second plurality of external holders in the carrier sheet corresponding with the second plurality of internal holders; filling each of the first plurality of internal holders with a first cleaning composition, and filling each of the second plurality of internal holders with a second cleaning composition; positioning a second film to cover the first film; sealing the second film around a rim of each of the first plurality of internal holders to define a first plurality of pouches, and sealing the second film around a rim of each of the second plurality of internal holders to define a second plurality of pouches; folding the carrier sheet along a line between the first plurality of external holders and the second plurality of external holders so that each of the first plurality of pouches overlaps a corresponding one of the second plurality of pouches; and sealing together overlapping portions of the carrier sheet. 17 . The method of claim 16 , each of the first and second films being made of a water-soluble material. 18 . The method of claim 17 , the carrier sheet being made of a water-resistant material. 19 . The method of claim 18 , comprising thermoforming the first film and the carrier sheet over the mold to define the first and second pluralities of internal holders and the first and second pluralities of external holders. 20 . The method of claim 16 , comprising cutting the first film and the second film and removing an area of waste material produced by cutting the first film to separate the first and second pluralities of pouches. 21 . The method of claim 16 , each multi-dose cleaning product being defined by at least a pair of overlapping first and second external holders and a pair of overlapping first and second pouches. 22 . The method of claim 21 , comprising forming a plurality of weakened tear lines in the carrier sheet so that the multi-dose cleaning products are separately detachable from the web. 23 . The method of claim 16 , the first cleaning composition being at least one of a dishwashing detergent, a laundry detergent, a water softener, or a rinse aid.
