Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A data transfer system is configured to receive via a computer communications network an identification of a location of remotely-stored structured data accessible to a remote system; provide an output signal for display on a remote system of a prompt for mapping data mapping the remotely stored data to data identifiers; receive mapping data in response to the prompt; access the remotely stored data; employing the received mapping data, map data elements identified in the remotely-stored, to a a predetermined format; verify that the received mapped data constitutes complete data to submit to a backend system; and submit the mapped data to the backend system.

What is claimed is: 1 . A data transfer system, comprising: a gateway computer, in communication via a local network with a backend transaction processing computer system and in communication via an external network with a plurality of remote computer systems, the gateway computer comprising a processor and a memory storage device in communication with the processor, the processor configured to: receive, from one of the remote computer systems, via the external network, data indicative of location of data, comprising a plurality of data elements in structured format, on a remote storage device, the location on the remote storage device accessible to the remote computer system, the data being in any one of a plurality of formats and comprising data related to a transaction for processing via the backend transaction processing computer system; receive via the external network mapping data, the mapping data including data indicative of correspondence between each of a plurality of data fields classifying data types operable by the backend transaction processing computer system and data identifiers among the data elements of the data on the remote storage device; access the remote stored data via ftp request transmitted over the external network; map the data elements from the accessed remote stored data, using the received mapping data, to data types in a predetermined format; determine whether the mapped data elements constitute all required data for processing of the transaction via the backend transaction processing computer system; responsive to determining that the mapped data elements do not constitute all required data for the transaction for processing via the backend transaction processing computer system, render on a display of the one of the remote computer systems, one or more prompts for input of data indicative of further data types; and responsive to determining that the mapped data elements constitute all required data for the transaction for processing via the backend transaction processing computer system, transmit the mapped data elements via the local network to the backend transaction processing computer. 2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of structured formats comprise spreadsheet formats, database formats and XML formats. 3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to render on a display of one of the remote computer systems, in a first screen area, the plurality of data elements using a selected program, and, in a second screen area, a plurality of user-selectable options, each of the options representing one of the data types in the predetermined format. 4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the processor is further configured to, prior to rendering the plurality of data elements and the user-selectable options, determine, based on identifying information in the accessed data, a predictive mapping. 5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the determining a predictive mapping of data comprises determining the structured format of the plurality of data elements, based on the determined structured format, select the identifying information, and compare the identifying information to a dictionary of identifiers corresponding to names of data types required by the backend transaction processing system. 6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the structured format is a spreadsheet format, and the identifying information comprises column header information. 7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the processor is further configured to render on the display of the remote computer system, a plurality of individual mappings between items of identifying information associated with names of data types required by the backend transaction processing system, and user-selectable options for confirming or clearing the displayed individual mappings. 8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to store in the memory storage device the mapping data and an association between the mapping data and a user identification, and responsive to a subsequent receipt of user identification and a further data indicative of location of data in structured format, access the further data associated with the user and map the accessed further data to the predetermined format. 9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined format is an ACORD XML compliant format. 10 . A computer implemented data transfer method, comprising: receiving, at a gateway computer system, via an external network connected to the gateway computer system via a firewall device, from a remote computer system, data indicative of location of data, comprising a plurality of data elements in structured format, on a remote storage device, the location on the remote storage device accessible to the remote computer system, the data being in any one of structured formats, and comprising data related to a transaction for processing via a backend transaction processing computer system in communication with the gateway computer system via a local network; receiving, by the gateway computer, via the external network, mapping data, the mapping data comprising data indicative correspondence between each of a plurality of data fields classifying data types operable by the backend transaction processing computer system and data identifiers among the data elements of the data on the remote storage device; accessing, by the gateway computer, the remote stored data, via file transfer request transmitted over the external network; mapping, by the gateway computer, using the received mapping data, the data elements from the accessed remote stored data, to data types in a predetermined format; determining, by the gateway computer, whether the mapped data elements constitute all required data for processing of the transaction via the backend transaction processing computer system; responsive to determining that the mapped data elements do not constitute all required data for the transaction for processing via the backend transaction processing computer system, rendering, by the gateway computer, on a display of the one of the remote computer systems, one or more prompts for input of data indicative of further data types; and responsive to determining that the mapped data elements constitute all required data for the transaction for processing via the backend transaction processing computer system, transmitting, by the gateway computer, the mapped data elements via the local network to the backend transaction processing computer. 11 . The computer implemented method of claim 10 , wherein the receiving of the data indicative of location of data comprises receiving path information via http post. 12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of structured formats comprise spreadsheet formats, database formats and XML formats. 13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , further comprising rendering, on a display of one of the remote computer systems, in a first screen area, the plurality of data elements, using a selected viewer, and, in a second screen area, a plurality of user-selectable options, each of the options representing one of the data types in the predetermined format. 14 . The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , further comprising, prior to rendering the plurality of data elements, determining, based on identifying information in the accessed data, a predictive mapping. 15 . The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , wherein the determining a predictive mapping comprises determining the structured format of the plurality of data elements, b
