Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A reference image of one or more objects is displayed on the display of a mobile device in a manner that allows a user of the mobile device to simultaneously view the reference image and a preview image of the one or more objects currently in a field of view of a camera of the mobile device. An indication is provided to the user of the mobile device whether the camera of the mobile device is currently located within a specified amount of a distance at which the reference image was acquired. An image management application provides various functionalities for accessing and managing image sequences. Access to images, workflows and workflow levels is managed using roles. Users are assigned roles and are permitted to access images, workflows and workflow levels for which they have been assigned the required roles.

1 . A network device comprising: one or more processors; one or more memories; and an image management application configured to perform: receiving, over one or more communications links from a client device that is external to the network device, a request for a user to access a particular process, from a plurality of processes, for processing one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, in response to receiving, over the one or more communications links from the client device that is external to the network device, the request for a user to access a particular process, from a plurality of processes for processing one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device: determining, from the plurality of processes for processing the one or more images acquired by the one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, one or more processes that the user is authorized to access, determining, based upon the one or more processes that the user is authorized to access and the particular process, whether the user is authorized to access the particular process for processing the one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, in response to determining, based upon the one or more processes that the user is authorized to access and the particular process, that the user is authorized to access the particular process for processing the one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, then allowing the user to access the particular process for processing the one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, in response to determining, based upon the one or more processes that the user is authorized to access and the particular process, that the user is not authorized to access the particular process for processing the one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, then not allowing the user to access the particular process for processing the one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device. 2 . The network device of claim 1 , wherein determining, from the plurality of processes for processing the one or more images acquired by the one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, one or more processes that the user is authorized to access includes determining one or more roles assigned to the user and determining the one or more processes that the user is authorized to access based upon the one or more roles assigned to the user. 3 . The network device of claim 2 , wherein at least one role from the one or more roles assigned to the user is assigned to one or more other users. 4 . The network device of claim 1 , wherein determining, from the plurality of processes for processing the one or more images acquired by the one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, one or more processes that the user is authorized to access includes: transmitting, to a service external to the network device, a request for one or more processes that the user is authorized to access, and receiving, from the service external to the network device, a response specifying that the user is authorized to access the one or more processes. 5 . The network device of claim 1 , wherein: the particular process for processing the one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device includes a plurality of levels, and the image management application is further configured to determine which of the plurality of levels for the particular process the user is authorized to access. 6 . The network device of claim 1 , wherein the image management application is further configured to perform: examining metadata for a particular image from the one or more images acquired by the one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device to determine whether the particular image is associated with the particular process, in response to determining, based upon the metadata for the particular image from the one or more images acquired by the one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, that the particular image is associated with the particular process, then allowing the user to process the particular image using the particular process, and in response to determining, based upon the metadata for the particular image from the one or more images acquired by the one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, that the particular image is not associated with the particular process, then not allowing the user to process the particular image using the particular process. 7 . The network device of claim 1 , wherein the image management application is further configured to perform: examining user data for the user to determine one or more logical entities assigned to the user, examining metadata for the one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device to identify one or more particular images, from the one or more images acquired by the one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, that are associated with the one or more logical entities assigned to the user, allowing the user to process the one or more particular images using the particular process, and not allowing the user to process one or more other images using the particular process, wherein the one or more other images are not associated with the one or more logical entities assigned to the user. 8 . The network device of claim 1 , wherein the image management application is further configured to perform: examining user data for the user to determine one or more logical entities assigned to the user, examining metadata for the one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device to identify one or more particular images, from the one or more images acquired by the one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, that are associated with both the particular process and the one or more logical entities assigned to the user, allowing the user to process the one or more particular images using the particular process, and not allowing the user to process one or more other images using the particular process, wherein the one or more other images are either not associated with the particular process or the one or more logical entities assigned to the user. 9 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions which, when processed by one or more processors, cause an image management application to perform: receiving, over one or more communications links from a client device that is external to a network device on which the image management application executes, a request for a user to access a particular process, from a plurality of processes, for processing one or the images acquired by one or more mobile devices that are different than the network device and the client device, in response to receiving, over the one or more communications links f
