The present disclosure relates to methods and devices for presentation of display device notifications. The notifications are visually appealing, employing a common theme and user interface. The notifications are less-intrusive, such that the user experience is improved. The notifications can provide additional information, function as links to destinations, and give the user multiple options, from which the user can make a selection. Actions taken by a user can be controlled and monitored to optimize user interaction with the notifications. By providing display device notifications to a user, the user is able to process important information on a display device in an improved way.

What is claimed: 1 . A method for presenting a notification on a display device, the method comprising: receiving, by a display device, a notification which is at least one of content-based, device-based, and guide-based; assigning, by the display device, a priority for the notification based at least on a type of the notification; determining, by the display device, when the notification should be presented based on the priority; presenting, by the display device, a first graphic, wherein the first graphic is a graphical element overlay including information related to the notification, and wherein presentation of the first graphic is based on the type of the notification; detecting, by the display device, a first action associated with the first graphic; and presenting, by the display device, a second graphic, wherein the second graphic provides additional information related to the notification. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the type of the notification is at least one of an alert, tip, recommendation, advertisement, and message. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the display device receives the notification from one of a cloud, a connected external device, and an internal guide. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the display device stores the notification on a canvas, and wherein the canvas contains a plurality of stored notifications. 5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the display device presents the canvas including the plurality of stored notifications on the canvas. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the display device sends the notification to a tandem device in communication with the display device. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first graphic has a predefined size and appearance, and is located on an edge of the display device, such that the first graphic covers only a first portion of any content on the display device. 8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein upon detection of the first action, the second graphic is presented by the display device, wherein the second graphic is located in the center of the display device such that the second graphic covers a second portion of any content on the display device, the second portion being larger than the first portion. 9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the display device detects the first action and a second action, the first action and the second action being sent from an external device controlled by a user. 10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the second action is related to the second graphic and functions as a link to a destination, application, silo, input, or other notification. 11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the second action serves to either select the second graphic and follow the link, or cancel the second graphic and not follow the link. 12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the second action is related to the second graphic and functions as a user selection to one of a plurality of second options displayed by the second graphic. 13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the second action serves to select one of the plurality of second options or cancel the second graphic and not select any of the plurality of second options. 14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first graphic is presented, by the display device, for a pre-determined time such that upon expiration of the pre-determined time, the first graphic is no longer presented by the display device. 15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein upon expiration of the pre-determined time, the notification related to the first graphic is stored by the display device in a canvas. 16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the pre-determined time is five seconds. 17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first graphic and the second graphic are semi-translucent. 18 . A display device comprising: a display; and a controller coupled to the display, the controller configured to receive a notification which is at least one of content-based, device-based, and guide based; assign a priority for the notification based at least on a type of the notification; determine when the notification should be presented, based on the priority; present a first graphic, wherein the first graphic is a graphical element overlay to include information related to the notification, and wherein presentation of the first graphic is based on the type of the notification; detect a first action related to the first graphic; and present a second graphic, wherein the second graphic provides additional information related to the notification. 19 . The device of claim 18 , wherein the first action is received, by the display device, from an external device controlled by a user. 20 . The device of claim 18 , wherein the first graphic is presented, by the display device, for a pre-determined time such that upon expiration of the pre-determined time, the first graphic is no longer presented by the display device.
