A mold assembly includes a first mold portion defining a cavity having a first wall with an edge and a second mold portion defining a surface positionable at a predetermined distance from the edge. A lifter is positionable within the cavity and is spaced apart from the first wall and the surface, the lifter including a plurality of pins extending toward the first wall and aligned in a first direction generally parallel with the edge.

We claim: 1 . A mold assembly, comprising: a first mold portion defining a cavity having a first wall with an edge; a second mold portion defining a surface positionable at a predetermined distance from the edge; and a lifter positionable within the cavity spaced apart from the first wall and the surface, the lifter including a plurality of pins extending toward the first wall and aligned in a first direction generally parallel with the edge. 2 . The mold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the lifter is movably coupled with first portion and is movable from a first position within the cavity to a second position out of the cavity. 3 . The mold assembly of claim 1 , wherein: the lifter is a first lifter having first and second surfaces; the pins of the first lifter extend from a first wall thereof; and the assembly further includes a second lifter having a first surface and a second surface, the second lifter being positionable within the cavity with the first surface in contact with the first wall of the cavity and the second surface spaced apart from the second surface of the first lifter, the second lifter having a plurality of pins extending toward the second surface of the first lifter and aligned in a second direction generally parallel with the surface of the second mold portion. 4 . The mold assembly of claim 3 , wherein the second lifter is movably coupled with first portion and is movable from a first position within the cavity to a second position outside the cavity. 5 . The mold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the lifter is positionable within the cavity such that the pins extend into contact with the first wall of the cavity. 6 . The mold assembly of claim 1 , wherein the lifter is positionable within the cavity such that the pins extend into a position spaced apart from the first wall of the cavity. 7 . The mold assembly of claim 1 , wherein: the lifter defines a first wall having a first portion and a second portion, the first portion being stepped outwardly from the second portion; and the plurality of pins is disposed on the firs portion of the first wall. 8 . A method for manufacturing a vehicle panel, comprising: injecting molten plastic into a mold to partially surround a lifter positioned within a cavity defined between first and second mold parts, including surrounding a plurality of pins extending from the lifter toward a wall of the cavity; cooling the molten plastic into the panel; and removing the panel from the mold at least by movement of the lifter from out of the cavity. 9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein: the step of injecting the molten plastic further fills a space between the first and second mold parts adjacent the cavity and between the second mold part and the lifter adjacent the cavity; and the step of cooling the molten plastic into the panel is such that the panel includes a substrate of plastic from within the space and an attachment structure of plastic from within the cavity and partially surrounding the lifter, the attachment feature having a plurality of holes therein imparted by the pins. 10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the step of removing the panel from the mold further includes moving the panel such that the attachment feature is moved from off of the lifter and the pins are removed from the plurality of holes. 11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein each of the plurality of pins extends into contact with the wall of the cavity such that the holes imparted on the attachment structure by the pins are through holes. 12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein each of the plurality of pins extends to a position spaced apart from the cavity such that the holes imparted on the attachment structure by the pins are blind holes. 13 . The method of claim 8 , wherein: the lifter is a first lifter; the step of injecting molten plastic into the mold further fills a first space between the first lifter and a second lifter positioned within the cavity and having a plurality of pins extending toward a surface of the first lifter; and the step of removing the panel from the mold further includes movement of the second lifter from out of the cavity. 14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein: the step of injecting the molten plastic further fills a space between the second mold part and the first mold part, between the second mold part and the second lifter adjacent the cavity, and between the second mold part and the first lifter, overlying the cavity; the step of cooling the molten plastic into the panel is such that the panel includes a substrate of plastic from within the space and an attachment structure of plastic from within the cavity and partially surrounding the first lifter, the attachment feature having a plurality of first holes therein imparted by the pins of the first lifter and a plurality of second holes imparted by the pins of the second lifter; and the step of removing the panel from the mold further includes moving the panel such that the attachment feature is moved from off of the lifter and the pins are removed from the plurality of holes.
