A system and method are disclosed for positioning a patient on an operating table. The patient positioning system includes a positioning pad having a body formed from a compressible material including a slip-resistant surface, a first end and a second end. The body has a thickness which increases from the first end of the positioning pad to the second end of the positioning pad. A plurality of tethers is fixedly secured to the body. Each of the tethers includes a fastening member adapted to secure the body to an operating table. The body includes a transverse cut which extends transversely from one side wall of the body to an opposite side wall of the body. The system also includes a sheet positioned within the transverse cut of the body of the positioning pad spaced from the slip-resistant surface of the positioning pad and at least one strap for securing the patient to the operating table. The positioning pad may include a perforated section to mirror a perineal cutout of an operating table.

1 - 28 . (canceled) 29 . A positioning pad system for positioning a patient on an operating table, the positioning pad system comprising: a body formed from a compressible material having a slip-resistant surface, a first end, a second end, a first side wall, and a second side wall, the body having a thickness which increases from about one inch at the first end of the body to about three inches at the second end of the body; and a plurality of tethers fixedly secured to the body, each of the tethers including a respective fastening member adapted to secure the body to the operating table. 30 . The positioning pad system of claim 29 , wherein the body includes a transverse cut that extends transversely from the first side wall of the body to the second side wall of the body, the transverse cut being configured to receive a sheet through the positioning pad in spaced relation to the slip-resistant surface. 31 . The positioning pad system of claim 30 , wherein each of the fastening members includes hook and loop fasteners. 32 . The positioning pad system of claim 30 , wherein the transverse cut is spaced from the first end of the body and extends through the second end of the body. 33 . The positioning pad system of claim 29 , wherein the body is formed from a first layer and a second layer, the first layer bonded to the second layer. 34 . The positioning pad system of claim 29 , wherein the first and second layers are formed of polyurethane foams. 35 . The positioning pad system of claim 30 , further including a sheet having a first end extending from one end of the transverse cut and a second end extending from the other end of the transverse cut. 36 . The positioning pad system of claim 35 , wherein the body defines first and second slits spaced from and extending parallel to the first and second side walls, the first and second slits communicating with the transverse cut, the first and second ends of the sheet extending from the first and second slits. 37 . A positioning pad system for positioning a patient on an operating table, the positioning pad comprising: a body formed from a compressible material having a slip-resistant surface, a first side wall, a second side wall, a first end and a second end, the body having a thickness which increases from the first end of the body to the second end of the body, wherein the body defines a transverse cut that extends from the first side wall to the second side wall transversely across a width of the body and first and second spaced slits, each of the first and second spaced slits being spaced from and extending parallel to a respective one of the first and second side walls and communicating with the transverse cut, and a sheet having a first end extending from the first slit, a second end extending from the second slit and a central portion extending through the transverse cut in spaced relation to the slip-resistant surface. 38 . The positioning pad system of claim 37 , further including a plurality of tethers secured to the body and extending outwardly from the first and second side walls of the body, each of the tethers including a fastening member adapted to secure the body to the operating table. 39 . The positioning pad system of claim 37 , wherein the body is formed from first and second layers bonded together. 40 . The positioning pad system of claim 39 , wherein the first and second layers are formed of polyurethane foams. 41 . A positioning pad system for positioning a patient on an operating table, the positioning pad system comprising: a body formed from a compressible material having a slip-resistant surface, the body including a first end and a second end, and the body having a thickness increasing uniformly from the first end of the body to the second end of the body; and a plurality of tethers fixedly secured to the body, each tether including a fastening member adapted to secure the body to the operating table. 42 . The positioning pad system of claim 41 , wherein the body includes a transverse cut which extends transversely from one side wall of the body to an opposite side wall of the body, the transverse cut being configured to receive a sheet through the positioning pad in spaced relation to the slip-resistant surface. 43 . The positioning pad system of claim 42 , wherein each of the fastening members includes hook and loop fasteners. 44 . The positioning pad system of claim 42 , wherein the transverse cut is spaced from the first end of the body and extends through the second end of the body. 45 . The positioning pad system of claim 41 , wherein the body is formed from first and second layers bonded together. 46 . The positioning pad system of claim 43 , wherein the first and second layers are polyurethane foams. 47 . The positioning pad system of claim 42 , further including a sheet having a first end extending from one end of the transverse cut and a second end extending from the other end of the transverse cut. 48 . The positioning pad system of claim 42 , wherein the body defines first and second slits spaced from and extending parallel to the first and second side walls, the first and second slits communicating with the transverse cut, the first and second ends of the sheet extending from the first and second slits.
