1 - 41 . (canceled) 42 . A genetically modified bacterial cell for production of a fatty ester, comprising an exogenous nucleic acid sequence encoding an alcohol forming polypeptide and an alcohol acetyltransferase polypeptide capable of catalyzing a conversion of a thioester and an alcohol, wherein said bacterial cell converts a renewable carbon source into a fatty ester. 43 . The bacterial cell of claim 42 , wherein said alcohol acetyltransferase polypeptide is alcohol acetyltransferase of EC 2.3.1.84. 44 . The bacterial cell of claim 43 , wherein said alcohol forming polypeptide is fatty alcohol forming acyl-CoA reductase of EC 1.1.1.*. 45 . The bacterial cell of claim 44 , wherein said cell is further genetically modified to express an exogenous nucleic acid sequence encoding acyl-CoA synthase. 46 . The bacterial cell of claim 45 , wherein said cell is further genetically modified to express an exogenous nucleic acid sequence encoding a thioesterase. 47 . The bacterial cell of claim 42 , wherein said alcohol forming polypeptide is acyl-CoA reductase of EC 1.1.1.50. 48 . The bacterial cell of claim 47 , wherein said cell is further genetically modified to express an exogenous nucleic acid sequence encoding acyl-CoA synthase. 49 . The bacterial cell of claim 48 , wherein said cell is further genetically modified to express an exogenous nucleic acid sequence encoding a thioesterase. 50 . The bacterial cell of claim 49 , wherein said cell is further genetically modified to express an exogenous nucleic acid sequence encoding an alcohol dehydrogenase of E.C. 1.1.1.1. 51 . The bacterial cell of claim 42 , wherein said bacterial cell is selected from the group consisting of Escherichia coli, Arthrobacter, Rhodotorula glutinins, Acinetobacter, Botryococcus braunii, Vibrio furnissii, Micrococcus leuteus, Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Bacillus subtilis and cyanobacteria. 52 . The bacterial cell of claim 42 , wherein the fatty ester is released into a fermentation media.
