This invention provides pharmaceutical formulations for the allosteric modulation of hemoglobin (S) and methods for their use in treating disorders mediated by hemoglobin (S) and disorders that would benefit from tissue and/or cellular oxygenation.

What is claimed is: 1 . A pharmaceutical formulation comprising a compound selected from the group consisting of a compound in Table 1 and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable wetting agent. 2 . The pharmaceutical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the compound is selected from compound 12, compound 35, and compound 39 in Table 1. 3 . The pharmaceutical formulation of claim 1 , further comprising at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, carrier and/or diluent. 4 . The pharmaceutical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the wetting agent is one or more of polyethylene glycol, sodium dodecyl sulfate, methyl cellulose, and polysorbate. 5 . A method for treating a subject in need thereof, comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a pharmaceutical formulation of claim 1 . 6 . A method for increasing oxygen affinity of hemoglobin S in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a a pharmaceutical formulation of claim 1 . 7 . A method for treating oxygen deficiency associated with sickle cell anemia in a subject, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical formulation of claim 1 .
