Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method for communicating in a wireless communications system includes receiving an indicator indicating a utilization of network resources for carrying an acknowledgement information, and determining whether the station is permitted to transmit a packet. The method includes when the station is permitted to transmit the packet, determining a first location of a first network resource in accordance with the indicator, and transmitting the packet at the first location of the first network resource.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method for communicating in a wireless communications system, the method comprising: receiving, by a station, an indicator indicating a utilization of network resources for carrying an acknowledgement information; determining, by the station, whether the station is permitted to transmit a packet; and when the station is permitted to transmit the packet, determining, by the station, a first location of a first network resource in accordance with the indicator, and transmitting, by the station, the packet at the first location of the first network resource. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the station is permitted to transmit the packet comprises: determining, by the station, that the station is permitted to transmit the packet when the station does not receive a trigger frame prior to receiving the indicator; and determining, by the station, that the station is not permitted to transmit the packet when the station does receive the trigger frame prior to receiving the indicator. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indicator indicates a second location of a second network resource for carrying the acknowledgement information. 4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein determining the first location of the first network resource in accordance with the indicator comprises selecting, by the station, the first location that does not include the second location. 5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indicator further indicates a third location of a third network resource for a transmission. 6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein transmitting the packet comprises transmitting, by the station, the indicator. 7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising receiving, by the station, the acknowledgement information responsive to the packet, wherein the acknowledgement information is received in accordance with the indicator. 8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein receiving the acknowledgement information comprises receiving, by the station, the acknowledgement information at a fourth location of a fourth network resource that does not include the third location. 9 . A method for communicating in a wireless communications system, the method comprising: receiving, by a station, a scheduling information and a first indicator indicating a utilization of network resources for carrying an acknowledgement information; transmitting, by the station, a first transmission in accordance with the scheduling information, the first transmission including a second indicator that is a superset of the first indicator; and receiving, by the station, the acknowledgement information responsive to the first transmission. 10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the scheduling information and the first indicator are received in a trigger frame. 11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the scheduling information is received in a trigger frame and the first indicator is received in a beacon frame. 12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the first indicator indicates a first location of a first network resource carrying the acknowledgement information. 13 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the first indicator further indicates a second location of a second network resource carrying a second transmission. 14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the first transmission and the second transmission are one and the same. 15 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the first indicator and the second indicator are one and the same. 16 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the second indicator indicates a third location of a third network resource carrying a third transmission including the acknowledgement information and a third indicator of a fourth location of a fourth network resource carrying a second transmission. 17 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the first indicator comprises a bitmap with each bit of the bitmap representing the utilization of a portion of the network resources. 18 . The method of claim 9 , wherein transmitting the first transmission comprises transmitting the second indicator in a common preamble of the first transmission. 19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the common preamble comprises a high-efficiency signal A (HE-SIG-A) field. 20 . A method for communicating in a wireless communications system, the method comprising: transmitting, by an access point, scheduling information and a first indicator indicating a utilization of network resources; receiving, by the access point, a first transmission in accordance with the scheduling information, the first transmission including a second indicator that is a superset of the first indicator; and transmitting, by the access point, an acknowledgement information responsive to the first transmission, the acknowledgement information transmitted in accordance with the first indicator. 21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the scheduling information and the first indicator are transmitted in a trigger frame. 22 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the scheduling information is transmitted in a trigger frame and the first indicator is transmitted in a beacon frame. 23 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the first indicator indicates a first location of a first network resource carrying the acknowledgement information. 24 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the first indicator further indicates a second location of a second network resource carrying a second transmission. 25 . A station adapted to communicate in a wireless communications system, the station comprising: a processor; and a computer readable storage medium storing programming for execution by the processor, the programming including instructions to configure the station to: receive an indicator indicating a utilization of network resources for carrying an acknowledgement information, determine whether the station is permitted to transmit a packet, and when the station is permitted to transmit the packet, determine a first location of a first network resource in accordance with the indicator, and transmit the packet at the first location of the first network resource. 26 . The station of claim 25 , wherein programming includes instructions to determine that the station is permitted to transmit the packet when the station does not receive a trigger frame prior to receiving the indicator, and determine that the station is not permitted to transmit the packet when the station does receive the trigger frame prior to receiving the indicator. 27 . The station of claim 25 , wherein the indicator indicates a second location of a second network resource for carrying the acknowledgement information. 28 . The station of claim 27 , wherein programming includes instructions to select the first location that does not include the second location. 29 . The station of claim 25 , wherein the indicator further indicates a third location of a third network resource for a transmission. 30 . The station of claim 29 , wherein programming includes instructions to transmit the indicator. 31 . The station of claim 30 , wherein programming includes instructions to receive the acknowledgement information responsive to the packet, wherein the acknowledgement information is received in accordance with the indicator. 32 .
