Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present disclosure describes a microprocessor executable presence reporting module operable to determine, based on one or more of a vehicle occupant context and requirement of law applicable to a current geographic location of the vehicle, whether the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication and/or by what communication channel and/or modality to contact the vehicle occupant.

1 - 24 . (canceled) 25 . A vehicle, comprising: a microprocessor executable presence reporting module operable to determine, based on a vehicle occupant context, the vehicle occupant context comprising a current seating position of the vehicle occupant and a current geographical and/or geopolitical location of the vehicle, and requirement of law applicable to the current geographic and/or geopolitical location of the vehicle, whether the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication and/or by what communication channel and/or modality to contact the vehicle occupant. 26 . The vehicle of claim 25 , wherein the presence reporting module determines, based on the vehicle occupant context, whether the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication and/or by what communication channel and/or modality to contact the vehicle occupant. 27 . The vehicle of claim 25 , wherein vehicle occupant context is one or more of whether or not the vehicle occupant is in the driver's seat. 28 . The vehicle of claim 25 , wherein the requirement of law is applicable to a current geographic location of the vehicle. 29 . The vehicle of claim 28 , wherein the requirement one or more of prohibits cellular calls, texting, tweeting and/or viewing video while the car is in motion. 30 . The vehicle of claim 25 , wherein the presence reporting module provides to a potential contactor whether or not the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication. 31 . The vehicle of claim 25 , wherein the presence reporting module provides to a potential contactor one or more currently available communication channels and/or modalities for contacting the vehicle occupant. 32 . The vehicle of claim 31 , wherein the vehicle occupant is potentially contactable by a set of communication channels and/or modalities and wherein the presence reporting module provides a presence service with only a subset of the communication channels and/or modalities being currently available. 33 . A method, comprising: a microprocessor executable presence reporting module determining, based on a vehicle occupant context, the vehicle occupant context comprising a current seating position of the vehicle occupant and a current geographical and/or geopolitical location of the vehicle, and requirement of law applicable to the current geographic and/or geopolitical location of the vehicle, whether the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication and/or by what communication channel and/or modality to contact the vehicle occupant. 34 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the presence reporting module determines, based on the vehicle occupant context, whether the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication and/or by what communication channel and/or modality to contact the vehicle occupant. 35 . The method of claim 33 , wherein vehicle occupant context is one or more of whether or not the vehicle occupant is in the driver's seat. 36 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the requirement of law is applicable to a current geographic location of the vehicle. 37 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the requirement one or more of prohibits cellular calls, texting, tweeting and/or viewing video while the car is in motion. 38 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the presence reporting module provides to a potential contactor whether or not the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication. 39 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the presence reporting module provides to a potential contactor one or more currently available communication channels and/or modalities for contacting the vehicle occupant. 40 . The method of claim 39 , wherein the vehicle occupant is potentially contactable by a set of communication channels and/or modalities and wherein the presence reporting module provides a presence service with only a subset of the communication channels and/or modalities being currently available. 41 . A non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium comprising a microprocessor executable presence reporting module on board a selected vehicle that, when executed, determines, based on a vehicle occupant context, the vehicle occupant context comprising a current seating position of the vehicle occupant and a current geographical and/or geopolitical location of the vehicle, and requirement of law applicable to the current geographic and/or geopolitical location of the vehicle, whether the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication and/or by what communication channel and/or modality to contact the vehicle occupant. 42 . The computer readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the presence reporting module determines, based on the vehicle occupant context, whether the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication and/or by what communication channel and/or modality to contact the vehicle occupant. 43 . The computer readable medium of claim 41 , wherein vehicle occupant context is one or more of whether or not the vehicle occupant is in the driver's seat. 44 . The computer readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the requirement of law is applicable to a current geographic location of the vehicle. 45 . The computer readable medium of claim 44 , wherein the requirement one or more of prohibits cellular calls, texting, tweeting and/or viewing video while the car is in motion. 46 . The computer readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the presence reporting module provides to a potential contactor whether or not the vehicle occupant is present and available for receiving an inbound communication. 47 . The computer readable medium of claim 41 , wherein the presence reporting module provides to a potential contactor one or more currently available communication channels and/or modalities for contacting the vehicle occupant. 48 . The computer readable medium of claim 47 , wherein the vehicle occupant is potentially contactable by a set of communication channels and/or modalities and wherein the presence reporting module provides a presence service with only a subset of the communication channels and/or modalities being currently available.
