Distributed favorite files are stored in a favorite storage device. An agent dynamically monitors usage statistics for a plurality of files, wherein the plurality of files are located on a plurality of devices, designates a first file of the plurality of files as a favorite file based on usage statistics for the first file, and in response to designating the first file as a favorite file, stores a copy of the first file on a favorites storage device.

What is claimed is: 1 . A machine readable medium on which instructions are stored, comprising instructions that when executed cause a machine to: dynamically monitor usage statistics for a plurality of files, wherein the plurality of files are located on a plurality of devices; designate, based on favorites criteria, a first file of the plurality of files as a favorite file; and in response to designating the first file as a favorite file, storing a copy of the first file on a favorites storage device. 2 . The machine readable medium of claim 1 , further comprising instructions that when executed cause the machine to: periodically update the favorites files designated and stored on the favorites storage device. 3 . The machine readable medium of any of claims 1 - 2 , wherein the instructions to dynamically monitor usage statistics for a plurality of files comprises instructions to identify a usage history of the plurality of files. 4 . The machine readable medium of any of claims 1 - 2 , further comprising instructions that when executed cause the machine to: designate a second file of the plurality of files as a favorite file based on the favorites criteria and characteristics of the second file; and store a copy of the second file on the favorites storage device, wherein the first file and the second file are originally stored on different storage devices. 5 . The machine readable medium of any of claims 1 - 2 , further comprising instructions that when executed cause the machine to: designate the favorites storage device based on usage statistics for a plurality of storage devices. 6 . The machine readable medium of any of claims 1 - 2 , wherein the favorites criteria comprises threshold heuristics to determine whether a particular file is likely to be accessed within a predetermined time. 7 . A system for managing distributed data, comprising: a computer processor; and a storage device coupled to the computer processor comprising instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the computer processor to: dynamically monitor usage statistics for a plurality of files, wherein the plurality of files are located on a plurality of devices; designate, based on favorites criteria, a first file of the plurality of files as a favorite file; and in response to designating the first file as a favorite file, storing a copy of the first file on a favorites storage device. 8 . The system of claim 7 , further comprising instructions that when executed cause the computer processor to: periodically update the favorites files designated and stored on the favorites storage device. 9 . The system of any of claims 7 - 8 , wherein the instructions to dynamically monitor usage statistics for a plurality of files comprises instructions to identify a usage history of the plurality of files. 10 . The system of any of claims 7 - 8 , further comprising instructions that when executed cause the computer processor to: designate a second file of the plurality of files as a favorite file based on the favorites criteria and characteristics of the second file; and store a copy of the second file on the favorites storage device, wherein the first file and the second file are originally stored on different storage devices. 11 . The system of any of claims 7 - 8 , further comprising instructions that when executed cause the computer processor to: designate the favorites storage device based on usage statistics for a plurality of storage devices. 12 . The system of any of claims 7 - 8 , wherein the favorites criteria comprises threshold heuristics to determine whether a particular file is likely to be accessed within a predetermined time. 13 . A method for managing distributed data, comprising: dynamically monitoring usage statistics for a plurality of files, wherein the plurality of files are located on a plurality of devices; designate, based on favorites criteria, a first file of the plurality of files as a favorite file; and in response to designating the first file as a favorite file, storing a copy of the first file on a favorites storage device. 14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising: periodically update the favorites files designated and stored on the favorites storage device. 15 . The method of any of claims 13 - 14 , wherein dynamically monitoring usage statistics for a plurality of files comprises identifying a usage history of the plurality of files. 16 . The method of any of claims 13 - 14 , further comprising: designating a second file of the plurality of files as a favorite file based on the favorites criteria and characteristics of the second file; and storing a copy of the second file on the favorites storage device, wherein the first file and the second file are originally stored on different storage devices. 17 . The method of any of claims 13 - 14 , further comprising: designating a favorites storage device based on usage statistics for a plurality of storage devices. 18 . The method of any of claims 13 - 14 , wherein the favorites criteria comprises threshold heuristics to determine whether a particular file is likely to be accessed within a predetermined time. 19 . A machine readable medium on which instructions are stored, comprising instructions that when executed cause a machine to: receive an indication that a file is designated as a favorite file from a user device; retrieve the file from a remote location; store the file as a first favorite file on a favorites storage device; re-retrieve the file from the remote location; and update the first favorite file with the re-retrieved file. 20 . The machine readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions further cause the machine to: receive a request from a user on the user device to retrieve the first favorite file; verify the user has permission to access the first favorite file; and in response to verifying the user has permission, providing access to the first favorite file on the favorites storage device. 21 . The machine readable medium of any of claims 19 - 20 , wherein the file is retrieved from a remote location via an Internet connection, and wherein the favorites storage device is accessible to the user device without an Internet connection. 22 . The machine readable medium of any of claims 19 - 20 , wherein the file is designated as a favorite file in response to usage statistics for the first file. 23 . The machine readable medium of any of claims 19 - 20 , wherein the file is designated as a favorite file in response to a context of the user device. 24 . The machine readable medium of any of claims 19 - 20 , wherein the file is re-retrieved from the remote location based on expiration information for the file. 25 . The machine readable medium of claim 24 , wherein re-retrieving the file from the remote location further comprises resetting expiration information for the file.
