1 - 16 . (canceled) 17 . An antisense oligonucleotide against Smad7 consisting of SEQ ID NO: 5: 5′-GTTTGGTCCTGAACATGC-3′, wherein at least one internucleoside linkage is a phosphorothioate linkage. 18 . The antisense oligonucleotide of claim 17 wherein all internucleoside linkages are phosphorothioate linkages. 19 . The antisense oligonucleotide of claim 17 wherein 2′-deoxyribonucleotides are replaced by corresponding ribonucleotides. 20 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising the antisense oligonucleotide of claim 17 and one or more pharmaceutically acceptable adjuvants or excipients. 21 . A method of treating Crohn's disease, comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of the antisense oligonucleotide of claim 17 . 22 . A method of treating ulcerative colitis, comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of the antisense oligonucleotide of claim 17 . 23 . A method of treating inflammatory bowel disease, comprising administering to a patient in need thereof an effective amount of the antisense oligonucleotide of claim 17 .
