A method of culturing at least one acetogenic bacteria, includes growing the bacteria in an aqueous medium comprising an amount of cysteine and/or cystine, wherein the cysteine and/or cystine concentration in the medium is maintained at a concentration of less than 0.20 g/L.

1 . A method of culturing at least one acetogenic bacteria, the method comprising: growing the bacteria in an aqueous medium comprising an amount of cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof; wherein a concentration of the cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof in the medium is maintained at a concentration range of 0.05 g/L to 0.20 g/L. 2 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the concentration of cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof in the medium is maintained at about 0.10 g/L. 3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the concentration of cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof in the medium is maintained at about 0.08 g/L. 4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein the medium further comprises a carbon source comprising CO, CO 2 or mixtures thereof. 5 . The method according to claim 4 , wherein the carbon source comprises at least 50% by weight of CO, CO 2 or mixtures thereof. 6 . The method according to to claim 1 , wherein the acetogenic bacteria is selected from the group consisting of Acetoanaerobium notera (ATCC 35199), Acetonema longum (DSM 6540), Acetobacterium carbinolicum (DSM 2925), Acetobacterium malicum (DSM 4132), Acetobacterium species no. 446, Acetobacterium wieringae (DSM 1911), Acetobacterium woodii (DSM 1030), Alkalibaculum bacchi (DSM 22112), Archaeoglobus fulgidus (DSM 4304), Blautia producta (DSM 2950), Butyribacterium methylotrophicum (DSM 3468), Clostridium aceticum (DSM 1496), Clostridium autoethanogenum (DSM 10061, DSM 19630 and DSM 23693), Clostridium carboxidivorans (DSM 15243), Clostridium coskatii (ATCC no. A method of producing acetate, ethanol or mixtures thereof from at least one carbon source, the method comprising: growing at least one acetogenic bacteria in an aqueous medium comprising an amount of cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof; wherein a concentration of cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof in the medium is maintained at a concentration range of 0.05 g/L to 0.20 g/L; and obtaining said acetate, ethanol or mixtures thereof. 8 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the concentration of cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof in the medium is maintained at about 0.10 g/L. 9 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the concentration of cysteine and/or cystine in the medium is maintained at about 0.08 g/L. 10 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the carbon source comprises at least 50% by weight of CO, CO 2 . and mixtures thereof. 11 . The method according to claim 7 , wherein the cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof present in the medium is added as a compound selected from the group consisting of L-cysteine-HCl, L-Cysteine, L-Cysteine-HCl (free of water) and L-Cysteine*H 2 O and mixtures thereof. 13 . A method of fermenting syngas to produce acetate, ethanol or mixtures thereof, the method comprising: culturing at least one acetogenic bacteria in an aqueous medium comprising an amount of cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof; wherein the cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof is maintained at a concentration range of 0.05 g/L to 0.20 g/L. 14 . The method according to claim 13 , wherein the concentration of cysteine, cystine or mixtures thereof in the medium is maintained at about 0.10 g/L. 15 .
