Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A dispensing package for a consumer care product is provided, having a product chamber and an outer jacket. The product chamber has an upper dispensing end; an inner surface; an outer surface; a top ridged opening at the upper dispending end of the product chamber on the outer surface; a major axis and a minor axis. At least a portion of the project chamber has a thickness “t” from about 0.45 mm to about 1.2 mm. The outer jacket has an inside surface; an outside surface; an upper end, a major axis and a minor axis. At least a portion of the outer jacket has a thickness “T” from about 0.45 mm to about 1.2 mm. The outer jacket at least partially surrounds the product chamber and attaches to the product chamber. A consumer care composition may be disposed in the product chamber.

What is claimed is: 1 . A dispensing package for a consumer care product, comprising: a product chamber comprising: upper dispensing end; an inner surface; an outer surface; a top ridged opening at the upper dispending end of the product chamber on the outer surface; a major axis and a minor axis; at least a portion of the product chamber has a thickness “t” from about 0.45 mm to about 1.2 mm; an outer jacket comprising: an inside surface; an outside surface; an upper end, a major axis and a minor axis: at least a portion of the outer jacket has a thickness “T” from about 0.45 mm to about 1.2 mm; and wherein the outer jacket at least partially surrounds the product chamber and attaches to the product chamber. 2 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein the product chamber has a flexural rigidity of about 1.5 to about 8 and the outer jacket has a flexural rigidity of about 1.5 to about 6.5. 3 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein the top ridged opening further comprises one or more grooves along the outer surface of the top ridged opening. 4 . The dispending package of claim 3 wherein the top ridged opening further comprises an outermost ridge. 5 . The dispensing package of claim 3 wherein the inside surface of the outer jacket has one or more ribs along the upper end of the outer jacket that cooperate with the one or more grooves of the top ridged opening to create a semi-permanent attachment of the outer jacket to the product chamber. 6 . The dispensing package of claim 5 wherein the semi-permanent attachment further provides a retention force of from about 1.5 lbs. to about 50 lbs. 7 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein the outer surface of the product chamber is in frictional contact with the inside surface of the outer jacket along at least a portion of the minor axis of product chamber and the minor axis of the outer jacket. 8 . The dispensing package of claim 7 wherein the outer surface of the product chamber is in frictional contact with the inside surface of the outer jacket along substantially all of the minor axis of product chamber and the minor axis of the outer jacket. 9 . The dispensing package of claim 1 further comprising a spacing between the outer surface of the product chamber and the inside surface of the outer jacket along at least a portion of the minor axis of the product chamber and the minor axis of the outer jacket, wherein the spacing is from about 0.01 to about 1.5 mm. 10 . The dispensing package of claim 1 comprising at least one gap region defined between outer surface of the product chamber and the inside surface of the outer jacket along at least a portion of the major axis of the product chamber and the major axis of the outer jacket. 11 . The dispensing package of claim 10 wherein the gap region extends a distance from about 2 mm to about 5 mm. 12 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein thickness of the product chamber at the top ridged opening is greater than the thickness T of the outer jacket. 13 . The dispensing package of claim 1 , wherein the top ridged opening is integral with the product chamber. 14 . The dispensing package of claim 13 wherein the upper dispensing end of the product chamber further comprises a curved downward extension of the sidewall to form a free end and a gap extending along the major axis between the free end and the outer surface of the product chamber. 15 . The dispensing package of claim 14 wherein the free end has a thickness t′ that is substantially non-uniform. 16 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein thickness t is substantially uniform. 17 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein the thickness T is non-uniform. 18 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein the product chamber and the outer jacket are molded from a polymeric material selected from the group consisting of polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS), polyethylene-terepthalate (PET), styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN), polyethylene-terepthalate copolymers, polycarbonate (PC), polyamides, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), thermoplastic elastomers, polyoxymethylene copolymer and mixtures thereof. 19 . The dispensing package of claim 3 wherein the one or more grooves along the outer surface of the top ridged opening extend above the upper end of the outer jacket. 20 . The dispensing package of claim 19 further comprising an outer cap that is translucent or transparent and the one or more grooves along the outer surface of the top ridged opening are viewable through the outer cap. 21 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein at least a portion of the product chamber and the outer jacket is translucent or transparent. 22 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein the product chamber and the outer jacket are shaped differently. 23 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein the dispensing package contains an antiperspirant or deodorant composition in a form selected from the group consisting of a solid form, a gel form, and a semi-solid form. 24 . The dispensing package of claim 1 wherein the assembled product chamber and outer jacket have a combined flexural rigidity of about 1.5 to about 17.
