1 - 13 . (canceled) 14 . A method for reducing iron overload in a patient in need thereof, comprising administering to said patient a polypeptide comprising a sequence of 20 amino acids having: at least 50% identity with the sequence SEQ ID NO: 1 cysteine residues at positions 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, 14, 17, and 18, and wherein the polypeptide is able to reduce iron absorption. 15 . A method according to claim 14 , wherein said polypeptide has at least 60% identity with the sequence SEQ ID NO: 1. 16 . A method according to claim 14 , wherein the polypeptide has at least 60% similarity with the sequence SEQ ID NO: 1. 17 . A method according to claim 14 , wherein the polypeptide has at least 70% similarity with the sequence SEQ ID NO: 1. 18 . A method according to claim 14 , wherein the polypeptide comprises the sequence SEQ ID NO: 1. 19 . A method according to claim 14 , wherein the polypeptide comprises the sequence SEQ ID NO: 2. 20 . A method according to claim 14 , wherein the polypeptide comprises the sequence SEQ ID NO: 3. 21 . A method according to claim 14 , wherein the polypeptide is a polypeptide of 25 amino acids having the sequence SEQ ID NO: 3. 22 . A method according to claim 14 , for treating hemochromatosis, or a disease resulting therefrom. 23 . A method according to claim 22 , wherein said disease resulting from hemochromatosis is hepatocarcinoma, cardiomyopathy, or diabetes. 24 . A method of according to claim 14 , for treating a disease selected from hepatocarcinoma, cardiomyopathy, or diabetes.
