1 - 52 . (canceled) 53 . A placeholder or implantation in a human or animal body, the placeholder comprising an outer wall having a plurality of openings, and an inner wall disposed within the outer wall and having a plurality of openings, wherein the inner wall is spaced apart from the outer wall in a direction transverse to a longitudinal axis of the placeholder that extends from a first end of the placeholder to a second end of the placeholder, the inner wall being spaced apart from the outer wall with at least one connecting portion to promote in-growth of body tissue in a space between the inner and outer walls, openings of the plurality of openings of the outer wall intersecting the space between the inner and outer walls, wherein the at least one connecting portion comprises an end wall arranged transverse to the longitudinal axis at or in a region of the that end of the placeholder, and wherein the placeholder further comprises first projections extending away from the first end of the placeholder. 54 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the end wall has a plurality of openings. 55 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the plurality of openings of the outer wall and the plurality of openings of the inner wall are aligned with each other. 56 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the inner wall is located entirely around a hollow bore extending through each of the first and second ends of the placeholder. 57 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the inner wall is located entirely around a hollow bore extending between the first and second ends of the placeholder, and the end wall has an annular shape having a central opening passing through the first end of the placeholder, the central opening having a smaller perimeter size than that of the hollow bore. 58 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the first projections are configured to contact a vertebra at the first end of the placeholder, and wherein the placeholder further comprises second projections extending away from the second end of the placeholder and configured to contact an adjacent vertebra at the second end of the placeholder. 59 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein each of the outer wall, the inner wall, and the end wall is made of at least one of titanium or a titanium alloy. 60 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein openings of the plurality of openings of the inner wall are arranged in rows and columns. 61 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the inner wall and the outer wall are concentric. 62 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the inner wall is accommodated completely within the outer wall. 63 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the at least one connecting portion further comprises another end wall arranged transverse to the longitudinal axis at or in a region of the second end of the placeholder. 64 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 63 , wherein the another end wall has a plurality of openings. 65 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 64 , wherein the plurality of openings of the another end wall correspond to the plurality of openings of the end wall. 66 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 63 , wherein each of the end wall and the another end wall has an annular shape. 67 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein openings of the plurality of openings of the inner wall have at least one of a diamond shape or a hexagon shape. 68 . The placeholder in accordance with claim 53 , wherein the inner wall and the outer wall have different wall thicknesses.
