Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

This invention introduces a variant in a video parameter set extension syntax element which allows more flexible signaling regarding tile alignment between each layer with respect to the layers it directly depends on.

First claim

1 : A method for decoding video comprising: (a) decoding a plurality of frames of said video, wherein each of said frames belong to a different one of a plurality of layers and have at least one of (1) a same temporal time in a corresponding decoded said video and (2) a different temporal time in a corresponding decoded said video, (b) receiving a video parameter set extension syntax providing information used for said decoding of said layers, wherein said information includes a tile boundary aligned flag for direct reference layers of said different layers. 2 : The method of claim 1 wherein each of said frames of said video that includes at least one slice and at least one tile, wherein each of said at least one slice is characterized that it is decoded independently of the other said at least one slice, wherein each of said at least one slice is characterized that it is decoded independently of the other said at least one slice, wherein each of said at least one tile is characterized that it is a rectangular region of said frame and having a plurality of coding units that are decoded by said decoding arranged in a raster scan order within a region of said frame, wherein said frame includes a plurality of said tiles that are not over-lapping with one another; wherein said at least one tile of said frame are collectively arranged in a raster scan order of said frame. 3 : The method of claim 1 wherein said tile boundaries aligned flag equal to 1 indicates that, when any two samples of said frame of one of said layers specified by said video parameter set extension syntax belong to one of said plurality of tiles, the two samples, when both present in said frame of a direct reference layer of said frame of said one of said layers, belong to one tile. 4 : The method of claim 1 wherein said any two samples of said frame of said one of said layers specified by said video parameter set extension syntax belong to different said tiles, the two samples, when both present in said frame of said direct reference layer of said frame of said one of said layers belong to different tiles. 5 : The method of claim 4 wherein tile boundaries aligned flag equal to 0 indicates that such restrictions may or may not apply. 6 : The method of claim 1 wherein for each of said layers and for each syntax within each of said layers for which each of said layers have a direct dependency said video parameter set extension syntax indicates how at least one of said tiles are aligned. 7 : The method of claim 1 wherein said tile boundary aligned flag is not signaled for layers that are not a direct reference layers of said different layers. 8 : The method of claim 7 wherein said tile boundary aligned flag is inferred to be 0 when it is said not signaled.
