Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A method for securing a strand to a fixation member for arthroscopic fixation, wherein the fixation member includes a channel on an exterior surface and an aperture therethrough. The method includes passing a strand having first and second ends through a flexible sleeve, passing the sleeve through the aperture of the fixation member in a first direction, tensioning the strand, and pulling the sleeve in a second direction different than the first direction to secure the sleeve to the fixation member without tying the strand on the fixation member.

1 .- 16 . (canceled) 17 . A method of securing a connector device to bone, the method comprising: providing or obtaining a connector device that includes a suture strand having a first end and a second end, the connector device further including a flexible tubular sleeve having an inner bore extending between a first open end and a second open end of the flexible tubular sleeve, the flexible tubular sleeve slidably received on the suture strand with the suture strand passing axially through the inner bore and exiting the flexible tubular sleeve through the first open end and the second open end of the flexible tubular sleeve; forming a first bore in bone; inserting the connector device into the first bore in a first direction, wherein the flexible tubular sleeve is inserted into the first bore in a folded delivery configuration with the first end of the suture strand and the second end of the suture strand located outside the first bore; and tensioning the suture strand while the flexible tubular sleeve is situated in the first bore, wherein said tensioning pulls the flexible tubular sleeve in a second direction opposite the first direction and deforms the flexible tubular sleeve in the first bore from the folded delivery configuration to a bunched-up securing configuration, the bunched-up securing configuration resisting movement of the flexible tubular sleeve back through the first bore in the second direction. 18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the suture strand is slidable through the inner bore of the flexible tubular sleeve in the folded delivery configuration, and wherein, with the flexible tubular sleeve in the bunched-up securing configuration in the first bore, the suture strand remains slidable through the inner bore of the flexible tubular sleeve. 19 . The method of claim 17 conducted arthroscopically. 20 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the flexible tubular sleeve is inserted into the first bore with an inserter. 21 . The method of claim 17 , flexible tubular sleeve is U-shaped in the folded delivery configuration. 22 . The method of claim 17 further comprising knot-tying the suture strand to the bone. 23 . The method of claim 17 further comprising knot-tying the suture strand to the flexible tubular sleeve. 24 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the flexible tubular sleeve is made from braided suture. 25 . A method of anchoring a suture strand in bone, the method comprising: providing or obtaining a connector device pre-loaded on an inserter, the connector device including a suture strand having a first end and a second end, the connector device further including a flexible tubular sleeve having an inner bore extending between a first open end and a second open end of the flexible tubular sleeve, the flexible tubular sleeve slidably received on the suture strand with the suture strand passing axially through the inner bore and exiting the flexible tubular sleeve through the first open end and the second open end of the flexible tubular sleeve; forming a first bore in bone; inserting the connector device into the first bore with the inserter and with the first end of the suture strand and the second end of the suture strand located outside the first bore, wherein the flexible tubular sleeve is inserted into the first bore in a first direction; and tensioning the suture strand while the flexible tubular sleeve is situated in the first bore, wherein said tensioning pulls the flexible tubular sleeve in a second direction opposite the first direction and deforms the flexible tubular sleeve in the first bore from a delivery configuration to a bunched-up securing configuration, wherein the bunched-up securing configuration resists pull-out of the flexible tubular sleeve from the first bore, and wherein, with the flexible tubular sleeve in the bunched-up securing configuration in the first bore, the suture strand is slidable through the inner bore of the flexible tubular sleeve. 26 . The method of claim 25 conducted arthroscopically. 27 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the flexible tubular sleeve is inserted into the first bore in a folded condition. 28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the flexible tubular sleeve is U-shaped in the folded condition. 29 . The method of claim 25 further comprising knot-tying the suture strand to the bone. 30 . The method of claim 25 further comprising knot-tying the suture strand to the flexible tubular sleeve. 31 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the flexible tubular sleeve is made from braided suture.
