A method for detecting the presence of a portable direct radiographic panel in a medical imaging system including radiographic exposure stands, each stand and each panel being provided with an NFC tag, includes positioning a panel in an exposure stand such that the NFC tags of the panel and the stand are in each other's operating range, detecting the presence of the panel in the exposure stand by a-communication between the NFC tags, and communicating the presence of the panel in the exposure stand to the medical imaging system.

1 - 10 . (canceled) 11 . A method for detecting presence of a radiographic panel in a medical imaging system including a radiographic exposure stand, the radiographic exposure stand and the radiographic panel each including a Near Field Communication (NFC) tag, the method comprising the steps of: positioning the radiographic panel in the radiographic exposure stand such that the NFC tag of the radiographic panel and the NFC tag of the radiographic exposure stand are within each other's operating range; detecting presence of the radiographic panel in the radiographic exposure stand by communication between the NFC tag of the radiographic panel and the NFC tag of the radiographic exposure stand; and communicating the presence of the radiographic panel in the radiographic exposure stand to the medical imaging system. 12 . The method according to claim 11 , further comprising the step of: determining whether a radiographic exposure, for which exposure conditions are set forth in a radiological worklist, in the radiographic exposure stand where the presence of the radiographic panel has been detected, conforms to a radiographic exposure stand specified in the radiological worklist. 13 . The method according to claim 11 , further comprising the step of: selecting for a radiographic exposure, when presence of more than one radiographic panel has been detected in more than one radiographic exposure stand and radiological exposure conditions are set forth in a radiological worklist, a radiographic exposure stand specified in the radiological worklist, provided that presence of a radiographic panel in the selected exposure stand has been detected. 14 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the presence of the radiographic panel in the radiographic exposure stand is communicated to a radiographic workstation of the medical imaging system. 15 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the NFC tag provided on the radiographic panel is an active NFC tag, and the NFC tag provided on the radiographic exposure stand is a passive NFC tag, communication between the NFC tags is triggered by moving the active NFC tag towards the passive NFC tag such that the passive NFC tag is within the operational range of the active NFC tag. 16 . The method according to claim 15 , wherein the communication is triggered by the active NFC tag pulling a response from the passive NFC tag provided on the radiographic exposure stand. 17 . The method according to claim 11 , wherein the presence of the radiographic panel in the radiographic exposure stand is communicated to the medical imaging system by the radiographic panel via wired or wireless communication. 18 . The method according to claim 12 , further comprising the step of: when the radiographic exposure does not conform with the radiographic exposure stand specified in the radiological worklist, providing a warning to a radiographic operator. 19 . The method according to claim 11 , further comprising the step of: upon radiographic exposure, transmitting a radiographic image and metadata stored in the radiographic panel to the medical imaging system. 20 . A medical imaging system comprising: a radiographic exposure stand and a radiographic panel, each including a Near Field Communication (NFC) tag; means for positioning the radiographic panel in the radiographic exposure stand such that the NFC tag of the radiographic panel and the NFC tag of the radiographic exposure stand are within each other's operating range; means for detecting presence of the radiographic panel in the radiographic exposure stand by communication between the NFC tag of the radiographic panel and the NFC tag of the radiographic exposure stand; and means for communicating the presence of the radiographic panel in the radiographic exposure stand to the medical imaging system.
