Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Systems and methods are provided to collect, analyze and report social media aggregated from a plurality of social media websites. Social media is retrieved from social media websites, analyzed for sentiment, and categorized by topic and user demographics. The data is then archived in a data warehouse and various interfaces are provided to query and generate reports on the archived data. In some embodiments, the system further recognizes alert conditions and sends alerts to interested users. In some embodiments, the system further recognizes situations where users can be influenced to view a company or its products in a more favorable light, and automatically posts responsive social media to one or more social media websites.

We claim: 1 . A system comprising: at least one processor; and a memory that stores computer executable instructions that causes the at least one processor to execute operations comprising collecting a social media post that relates to a topic, wherein the social media post is created by a user and collected from a social media website, analyzing a sentiment expressed in the social media post, the sentiment comprising an opinion that relates to the topic, and generating a user interface that displays a stream of social media posts that relate to the topic, the social media posts comprising the social media post, most common phrases associated with the social media posts, and a count of the social media posts. 2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the topic comprises a brand and a product type. 3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to execute operations further comprising: storing the social media post in a database; and indexing the social media post based upon the sentiment and the topic. 4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to execute operations further comprising: determining a demographic category associated with the user; storing the social media post in a database; and indexing the social media post based upon the sentiment, the topic, and the demographic category. 5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to execute operations further comprising: determining that the social media post expresses a negative sentiment; and in response to the determining, generating an alert. 6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the computer executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to execute operations further comprising: determining that the social media post expresses a negative sentiment; and in response to the determining, posting social media to the social media website, wherein the social media is responsive to the negative sentiment, and wherein the social media indicates that action is being taken to remedy a condition associated with the negative sentiment. 7 . A method comprising: collecting, using a computing device comprising at least one processor that executes a sentiment analysis module, a social media post that relates to a topic, wherein the social media post is created by a user and collected from a social media website; analyzing, using the computing device, a sentiment expressed in the social media post, the sentiment comprising an opinion that relates to the topic; and generating, using the computing device, a user interface that displays a stream of social media posts that relate to the topic, the social media posts comprising the social media post, most common phrases associated with the social media posts, and a count of the social media posts. 8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the topic comprises a brand and a product type. 9 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising: storing the social media post in a database; and indexing the social media post based upon the sentiment and the topic. 10 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising: determining a demographic category associated with the user; storing the social media post in a database; and indexing the social media post based upon the sentiment, the topic, and the demographic category. 11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the demographic category comprises a location associated with the user, an income level associated with the user, and an age associated with the user. 12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the location is determined from a content of the social media post. 13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the location is determined from a content of the social media post. 14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising: determining that the social media post expresses a negative sentiment; and in response to the determining, generating an alert. 15 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising: determining that the social media post expresses a negative sentiment; and in response to the determining, posting social media to the social media website, wherein the social media is responsive to the negative sentiment, wherein the social media indicates that action is being taken to remedy a condition associated with the negative sentiment. 16 . A non-transitory machine readable medium that stores computer executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to execute operations comprising: collecting a social media post that relates to a topic, wherein the social media post is created by a user and collected from a social media website; analyzing a sentiment expressed in the social media post, the sentiment comprising an opinion that relates to the topic; generating a user interface that displays a stream of social media posts that relate to the topic, the social media posts comprising the social media post, most common phrases associated with the social media posts, and a count of the social media posts. 17 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the topic comprises a brand and a product type. 18 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the computer executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to execute operations further comprising: storing the social media post in a database; and indexing the social media post based upon the sentiment and the topic. 19 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the computer executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to execute operations further comprising: determining a demographic category associated with the user; storing the social media post in a database; and indexing the social media post based upon the sentiment, the topic, and the demographic category. 20 . The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the computer executable instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to execute operations further comprising: determining that the social media post expresses a negative sentiment; and in response to the determining, posting social media to the social media website, wherein the social media is responsive to the negative sentiment, and wherein the social media indicates that action is being taken to remedy a condition associated with the negative sentiment.
