A mixing apparatus and method of mixing using a mixing blade that moves axially and rotates in a predetermined fashion to achieve mixing of components.
Opening claim text (preview).
1 . A mixing apparatus comprising: i. a mixing chamber having a first end and second end, where said first end is open; ii. a mixing device secured to said first end, said mixing device comprising a plunger, a rod, a mixing head having a plurality of angled blades, and a device to control spin of the mixing head, wherein said mixing head is inserted at least partially into the mixing chamber, wherein said device to control spin of the mixing head causes the mixing head to spin when the plunger is moved in a first axial direction, and causes the mixing head to avoid spinning when the plunger is moved in a second axial direction. 2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said mixing chamber is the body of a first syringe, and said first syringe comprises a plunger at a second end. 3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a dispensing tip capable of being secured to said first end of said mixing chamber. 4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said mixing head includes a plurality of axially extending protrusions on at least one surface of at least one angled blade on said mixing head. 5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said mixing head includes an outer ring having an outer wall, and said outer ring includes at least one radially extending protrusion extending from the outer wall of the outer ring. 6 . A method of mixing two components comprising: i. having a first component and a second component into a mixing chamber having a first end and second end, where said first end is open; ii. securing a mixing device to said first end, said mixing device comprising a plunger, a rod, a mixing head having a plurality of angled blades, and a device to control spin of the mixing head, wherein said mixing head is inserted at least partially into the mixing chamber; and iii. moving said plunger in a first axial direction and in a second axial direction at least one time each, wherein said device to control spin of the mixing head causes the mixing head to spin when the plunger is moved in a first axial direction, and causes the mixing head to avoid spinning when the plunger is moved in a second axial direction. 7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said mixing chamber is the body of a first syringe, and said first syringe comprises a plunger at a second end. 8 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising a dispensing tip capable of being secured to said first end of said mixing chamber. 9 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said mixing head includes a plurality of axially extending protrusions on at least one surface of at least one angled blade on said mixing head. 10 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said mixing head includes an outer ring having an outer wall, and said outer ring includes at least one radially extending protrusion extending from the outer wall of the outer ring. 11 . A kit comprising: i. a mixing chamber having a first end and second end, where said first end is open; ii. a mixing device capable of being secured to said first end, said mixing device comprising a plunger, a rod, a mixing head having a plurality of angled blades, and a device to control spin of the mixing head, wherein said mixing head is inserted at least partially into the mixing chamber; iii. a first material to be mixed; and iv. a second material to be mixed. 12 . The kit of claim 11 , wherein said first material is contained within said mixing chamber. 13 . The kit of claim 11 , wherein the second material to be mixed is provided in a separate container. 14 . The kit of claim 11 , further comprising a third material to be mixed. 15 . The kit of claim 11 , wherein said mixing chamber is the body of a first syringe, and said first syringe comprises a plunger at a second end. 16 . The kit of claim 11 , further comprising a dispensing tip capable of being secured to said first end of said mixing chamber. 17 . The kit of claim 11 , wherein said mixing head includes a plurality of axially extending protrusions on at least one surface of at least one angled blade on said mixing head. 18 . The kit of claim 11 , wherein said mixing head includes an outer ring having an outer wall, and said outer ring includes at least one radially extending protrusion extending from the outer wall of the outer ring.
